Where is the current test version of the Iyanden list?

I'm considering making a new Army and Iyanden sounds interesting and hard to play... Also I think they will look amazing.

Any ideas on what to take in 2.7k

I know I want Revenants (gorgeous models)
Warp Spiders (Always liked them)
2 formations of Spirit Warriors. (It wouldn't be Iyanden without them)
Some Wraithlords, if possible.

I haven't ever seen an Iyanden list. If you find one, let us know where you got it.

Thanks.

Here's a LINK to the v1 list in pdf format.

Since then the Spirit Warhost formation has changed and is now made up of 4 Wraithguard for 250 points. This change was introduced when a 6-strong formation was found to be too strong, especially on air assaults. Also, Vampire Raider can only carry 4 Wraithguards max now (which makes sense, IMO).

Having playtested this version a bit, I have to say that, while OK on air assaults, 4-strong Spirit Warhosts are a bit weak if deployed otherwise. I have suggested these changes, which may or may not be OK (waiting for playtest results).

Iyanden is a fun army to play with, and plays really diffrently from Biel-Tan, so I'd advise you to try it. BTW, you'll need at least 3 Spirit Warhosts in your army, otherwise you'll be a bit limited in your troops selection (see the Living Few rule).

Really?

In 2.7k

75 Supreme Commander
450 for 4 Wraith guard in Waveserpents
250 for 4 Wraith guard
200 for Vampire
650 for Revenants
350 for 6 Wraithlords
200 for 6 Jetbikes
175 for 3 Night spinners
355 for 4 Warpspiders + Exarch, 2 Falcons, 1 Waveserpent

2705

I cant see how I would have the points to need a 3rd Spirit host

Well... you're right.  :(8:

But I usually don't use Titans because I prefer more Vampires/Nightwings, so that leaves me with more points. And I prefer to have more options in case of bigger games anyway.

Also, note that the 75-points Supreme Commander hasn't been approved yet, although I tend to think it will be eventually.

The whole list is experimental isn't it... So none of it's going to stick as it is.... Anyway with 3 Boxes of troops... I will have a few options if I want, all I'll need to do is paint up a couple of stands...

BTW why where Wraith Guard and Wraith Lords removed from the Guardian Formations, I would have thought they would be completely fair and also in the fluff.

That I don't know. I wonder if it's a mistake or not... It would indeed fit the fluff, so I can't think of a good reason not to allow them as an option for Guardians.

Would it make the army too strong somehow ?  :8:

Yes, they are among my favourite models... but they are also extremely fragile, mainly because they lack Reinforced Armour. In my games, they tend to die horribly fast.

Then again, maybe I'm doing something wrong... but it's hard to hide Titans from enemy fire.

What you have to do is build apsolutely gorgeous scenery that hides them... The better it is the easier to get it onto the board..... Mu ha ha.....

I can't see how.. You don't see them being used that often in Bieltan armies.... so I can't think they are broken.

I might alter the Living Few rule so it now said.

Iyanden suffers with a depleted population which has driven them in times of need to raise spirit warriors to fight in their absence. As a result, Iyanden Armies may not have more individual Aspect Warrior troupes, Ranger Troupes, Windrider troupes and Eldar Guardian warhost which do not contain spirit warriors (Wraithlords or Wraithguard) than they have Spirit warhosts.

It's mostly from design reasons. There is the issue of model pacticality. I would prefer a Guardian Troupe instead of a Host but due to packaging it became practical to have a Guardian host.
Now it wouldn't be fitting for Wraithguard who are summoned by Iyanden to fill the vast gaps of live troops to end up as add ons to Guardians when they are supposed to be the main forces left to Iyanden. As well as making Iyanden Guardians as strong as other craftworlds which doesn't capture the feel of Iyanden.

It just feels wrong to say, Iyanden relies on Spirit Warriors, so you can't have them as attachments to your guardians. I can understand you don't want guardians to be as attractive. But the fact they don't give you access to other mortal formations already does this very well. It doesn't make much sense, and I don't think I'm the only one that believes this.

Although I'm aware that model practicality may be a problem (and remember that a Guardian troupe was once discussed and rejected for this reason), I'm with mageboltrat on this one.

After all, you could argue that the Wraithguards/lords are not add-ons to Guardian formations, but instead that the Guardians act as "bodyguards" for the Wraithguards/lords.

Now, what I'm about to suggest is probably way too radical a change, but I'll suggest it anyway, just for the record.  :p How about something like this :

- remove Guardian Warhosts altogether from the list
- turn the Wraithlords troupe into a Wraithlord Warhost (same size, same price)
- Add the following option to both Spirit and Wraithlords Warhosts :
  * add 4 Guardian units for + 75 points. Up to three Guardians may be replaced with Heavy Weapons platforms. In addition the formation may include 3 support weapon platforms for + 50 points.

There. Probably not much of an idea, but I just had it and I felt like writing it down.  :(8:

Allowing Wraithguards/lords upgrade in the Guardian warhost is probably a better idea, though.
