Although I've been a member of this forum for only seven months, I can honestly say that I have made many new good friends. I'm still amazed that the wonders of modern technology have given me the opportunity to meet people around the world that I otherwise would never have met. It truly is a pity that we are all separated by so many miles.

Channukah is a slightly different kind of holiday than Christmas. It has picked up less of a commercial mythos although the central message of Channukah still remains mostly undefined. I would say it is about freedom (maintaining identity as a minority in the face of a majority) and giving (helping out those with less than you), but either way, I like the holiday. The history of Channukah (the battle of the Maccabean Jews against the Antiochian Greco-Syrians) still feels very real and intimate to me.
I still think the holiday holds a real mesage for us in this day and age. It's pretty clear that when another culture seeks to directly destroy yours (they're obviously not choosing the path of toleration and coexistence) that one can no longer respond with kid gloves. Real action is needed when there are real problems. The only things were having in life are those things you beleive in enough to fight over when those things are threatened to be taken from you. That's real to me.

Hope you've all had a great Christmas guys (or indeed any other festive season!  )- I'm just dropping in quickly as I'm away from home over the holidays for a bit...
I was very happy to recieve a nice new Dremel yesterday, amongst other goodies, so will be making a start at some festive model grinding when I return home!
