Hello, just joined up and thought I'd put in my two cents. First I am assuming you are all talking about removing the 2+ BFI and then adding these upgrades. The Necrons are overpowered right now. Very overpowered. Am I correct in my assumption?

Not really. The boarding thing is using the Scarab Storm idea of Hellbore to board even if shields are up, not the Necrons themselves. Ok, boarding may be the wrong term. Doing hit and run attacks would be the more correct term.

i am still not sure about the save.

not that i disagree with the mechanics, but rather the effect. Even with a 4+ save a necron escort has a lower survival rate than an ORK escort, simply because the ork will ignore the first hit.

Even if nothing else, I still feel the necrons should have at least 1 conventional shield.

2 for cruisers.

The shields go down like everyone elses, and you only start making 4+ saves when they are down- the shields blocking damage to the hull so no need for self repair.

You're right on the escort subject.

Another idea maybe to improve stealth, thus giving the enemy negative modifiers for hitting the Necrons.

If you are set on keeping the save, maybe the opposite of how they are set up at the moment would work?

Instead of the biggest ships having the best save, give it to the escorts. A ship that small would be almost impossible to hit to begin with, add in the stealth and you have less of a chance of hitting a necron escort than a tombship (in my mind at least).

I would go so far as to give all necron escorts a 2+ save, light cruisers a 3+ and cruisers/battleships a 4+.

It LOOKS nasty, but if you think about it, escorts have a single hit, so it just takes a single 1 to kill them. I would also lower their armour to 5+.

So if you stay with the mechanic you get this:

BB, CG, BC, AC: 6+ armour, 4+ save

CL: 6+ armour, 3+ save

Escort: 5+ armour. 2+ save

BFI would give them the standard 4+ save, but only taken AFTER the 2+/3+/4+ save was failed.

Or one could readjust the VPs given away by Escorts. Make it lower.

FYI I'm collecting all points and will make a PDF with the Necron ideas + ships including the Reaper class & Khopesh class to spice it up.

Don't ask me when I put it online....well march you may ask..
