Hi Gandalf,

Why was this forum renamed and then buried way down where it is hard to find??
I wanted to post this in a general discussion area, not Epic. It's barely got to do anything with Epic...

OK, Gandalf. I moved your thread for you. If you'd prefer it to be elsewhere, please let me know.

Quote (Gandalf the Grey @ 28 Nov. 2005 (16:32))
Nevertheless, THIS DOESN'T DETER ME FROM MY PLANS TO INFORM THE CASUAL GAMER ABOUT LOTS OF OTHER GAMES OUT THERE, NOR KEEP ME FROM OBTAINING MY REAL GOAL, WHICH IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD! So suck it.

CyberShadow loves to have discussion of other games and manufacturers here so it's not a problem in any way, shape or form. In fact, we rather like having you around, Gandalf! :)

Quote (Gandalf the Grey @ 28 Nov. 2005 (16:32))
Anyway, picked up a new game this week. It's an oldly goldie released only a few years after I was born:

Intruder by Task Force Games

I've seen Task Force games floating around here and there, but this is my first exposure to them. You can find more about Task Force Game here.

Anyway, upon tearing off the plastic, I am SHOCKED this game hasn't been re-released by someone in a newer format. I am not big on solo games, but this one is pretty well done, and despite a paper map and counters, and not to mention a pretty detailed, hard to read, and comprehensive rulebook, I have to recommend this game be included in everyone's collection.

Great game! I love it and own quite a few of the old "micro and meta games."

Quote (Gandalf the Grey @ 28 Nov. 2005 (16:32))
The premise of the game is pretty much Alien. This game was released around the time the movie came out. Basically the player controls 9 crew members of different types trying to capture/kill an alien that has broken loose on the space station. The clever thing is that not only has the alien broken lose, but many of the animals in the lab with it, and since they all move around randomly (counters faced down), you really don't know who is who until you are in the same room as them. In my first game, I was terrified of losing my unarmed crew before they could get to the weapons locker, that I pretty much kept them where they started.

However, once I got going, the dice determined that the alien wasn't in the mood to attack my guys and it didn't take me long to kill it with a blaster. Kind of anti-climatic. The game allows the creature to randomly evolve, gain new powers, etc, and become more powerful, but that didn't happen in my case. I also zipped through a lot of details just trying to learn the system, and going back to the rulebook I realized I may have done some things wrong or just left things out.

*** Have you tried SJG's Awful Green Things From Outer Space? ***

It's a classic and I've been playing it for years.

Quote (Gandalf the Grey @ 28 Nov. 2005 (16:32))
The killer thing is that a lot of random things can happen, so no two games will ever be the same. Since the crew starts out scattered around the station, usually unarmed, you have to get to the weapons locker or maintenance areas for Engineers to build weapons. So while you think there is a race to these places, 9 counters are roaming the station and you really don't know which one is the alien. In my case, the alien didn't attack my guys when they found it while unarmed, but it could have easily killed them.

The premise is so simple, but it makes for a very imaginative game, and lke I said, I am SHOCKED this game hasn't been revised and re-released in a newer format by anyone. For anyone who likes to play solo games I recommend it. Well ahead of it's time for 1980. It does show it's age though, as there is nothing really fancy about the map, counters, or rulebook. It's kind of abstract but does force you to think.

I wish we had more games like that coming out.

Quote (Gandalf the Grey @ 28 Nov. 2005 (16:32))
Two thumbs up! You can get this for cheap on Ebay. Now I am off to buy the rest of Task Force's games...

There are lots of oldies and goodies around.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Guys,

I moved Gandalf's mini-blog to the wargame's discussion area. He mentioned that he'd prefer his mini-blog to be out of the Epic areas.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

There's a lot of good ideas and games floating about. Of course, a good game or idea doesnt mean marketing success. Unfortunetly thats why a lot of games, while fun remain relatively unknown.

Good call. I should have done this earlier. This is the kind of thread that I really enjoy reading. Thanks.

LOL
Nice motors, boy do you like your cars
Me, I'm afraid I've not the slightest interest in them, apart from styling, if it looks good then that's the car for me, none of this MPG, MPH, technical stuff
By the way on your recommendation I picked up a couple of packs of 'Pirates', what a great little game, and the smallest dice I've ever seen :p I'll have to invest in some more packs to have a big game but I can still see it as a wonderful little travel game, just a couple of ships on a long train journey would be fun.

Actually, V, you're not too far off. It's not a pony cart, but a pony car!  :D

The coolest thing is watching the shaker vibrate when starting the car, shifting, or gunning it, since it sticks right out of the hood when it is closed.

My brother's '73 Trans Am has a shaker top sitting on top of the SD 455. I agree, it is fun watching it vibrate when starting the car, idling, etc. ?

Hi!

The ford mustangs 2006 are not that "expensive". They fluctuate between just under 20k to just under 32k depending on what it comes with.

The price of the car in the photo, which will be released in 2007 in a more expensive car quoted online as under 40k, about 39,995. Not cheap, but not what I'd consider expensive (i.e anything over 50k).

Primarch, please, some of us here are running around in an inherited Fiat Punto, which in this country where cars are obscenely overpriced costs the equivalent of US$13,000. And no chance of affording a replacement at the moment.
A      pony cart would be an upgrade!

Oh - and good point, DS

Hi Gandalf,

*** Did you get my address? ***

I keep getting error messages or returned E-mails from your regular E-mail. That leads me to think that the PM address you gave Epicomms is either full or otherwise having problems.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
