I wonder whether any other companies could learn from that... :/

Don't we wish.

...Yet my friend Jim has a similar passion for Victorian SciFi as yourself. I have forwarded him some of your previous links. Most of them he had already seen or else was studiously avoiding at the risk of spending yet more money....

Did I give you his e-mail address?

Hi James,
no, not yet - send away, that I may belabour him with further tempting sites....

And I'm afraid I have gotten better - er - again - and have spent more $ on BFG ships from warmaster... sigh!  :alien:  :D

Right - so where am I moving on to?
Well it IS time for a change, so - here it is: I'll try last in, first out.
That is, I'l try to paint the last model bought, and work my way backwards. This would mean that a pair of antique Imperial knights which I badly need to repaint would be the last model I would paint - if I stopped buying stuff and put off death for a couple of centuries. I can already see a million pitfalls - loads of incomplete 'last-but-one models, competition dilemmas, ToEGs, etc. But it should be fun.
I'll still probably work on more than one model at a time, though...

So- where do I begin?
with a 40K Dark Eldar Ravager. Much as I don't like wyches and slave raids, the Dark Eldar are one of my fevourite races, and I'm still planning a few Epic models. Weirdo conversions, of course, so don't expect to see Raiders and stuff. The troops will, as ever, be a problem. I might solve this by mingling them with my Eldar, with Harlequins sandwiched in between. I would have to use Eldar rules, I expect - don't think anyone out there is interested in make DE rules for EA are they? And there's none on NEtepic, are there? (if there are, I've missed them big time).
But back to 40K - well seeing poor me down with flu, the wife stopped at the model shop and purchase a model she fancied - the Ravager. Seeing I like it too, it should be the first to enjoy the LIFO treatment. EXCEPT (here we go!) that I have to complete one competition entry first!    :p  :D  :alien:

There is a new group that is now the "new" ICE. They are working on new materials.
(snip)
Actually, Leland Erickson, one of the new ICE writers/investors/painters/etc. lives close by and we're acquaintances if not better. He keeps saying he wants to run a few games, but I haven't seen it happen yet.

I have a number of painted fighters and all of my rulebooks.
(snip)
The small fighters can be fun if a bit thinly armored. They pop easily. I always liked the Salamander and I'm not sure why.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi

I have been to the Metal Express site. Funnily enough it was Leland himself who directed me there when I posted on the olf SD Yahoo Group. I did n't realise until later that Leland had contributed to/written so many of the SD Supplements.

He has given me some helpful advice for painting my Sigurd fleet. I am going for mainly red (the main Viking colour for shields & banners) with black & white for contrast colours (I want to try getting a few raven designs in black on larger ships wings).

Did you paint your SD ships for any particular House? Or have you gone for a merc force?

I liked the Salamander but neither of my 2 fleets (Yoko Shan and Sigurd) can use it. However I did like using it when we were doing warm up games. The specialist gunner & 360 degree fire arc helped, plus it had torps!   :8):

Maybe Leland can persuade you to give SD another try when Operation Dry Dock II comes out soon.....

Cheers

James

I liked SD too, and have a bunch of stuff lying aorund here somehwere.  I found it refreshing and fun as I searched for years throughmnay different space combat games looking for the right balance.

BTW I never found THE game, but that was very close.  Again, I dropped it in the end for lack of opponents. :(

I need to find another club.  One that moves every 2 years with me! :p

Hi James,

X-posted to Maksim's Epicomms blog.

Leland's a funny guy and one of the most active "Internet" gamers I have ever met. He practically seems to have a web presence EVERYWHERE!

Has has contributed and/or written a number of SD supplements, but I don't own any of them and I have about eight of them or so. If I ever get one that he had a part in, I'll have him sign them.

Leland hopes to do more game writing like myself.

He's a nice guy. We get along.

I never really paid too much attention to the SD factions. I like the robots though (I think they're called the ASP Confederation or something like that). I also like the bio-organic bad guys (forgot their name).

I have a notion to use the SD ships as the Yuzhan Vong from the newer Star Wars novels.

I suppose that my SD ships are mercenary. I actually painted them in styles remniscent of the Arab/Israeli conflict. A few ofthem serve with my Epic air forces as well.

The thing about Leland is that his attention span is apt to wander. I've seen him switch gears very quickly in the past and I'll play SD with him again when he commits to doing so. Until then, I'll count on him for some friendly E-mails, but not a concrete game.

He also has a lovely wife and kiddles so I can understand if he is otherwise occupied. I have met his wife and a child of his before.

Leland used to run a painting service like Tuffskull, but he gave that up after a near-death experience a few years back.

He is also an amzing scratch-builder. One of these days when I have extra dinero about (Ha!), I'll commission him to build me an Epic dropship.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
