Being fairly new to Tau, i'm curious to know if there's a specific way to paint the heads on the leader type suits? Also can anyone tell me which suit is which in FW range? I'm assuming the suit with the shield arm is the Shas'O but I'm not 100% sure.

Usually it has to do with the odd color stripes on the legs more than the heads. That's 'old tau' speaking though.

New tau, it may have something more to do with antennas and what not.

FW:IA3 talks about commanders making unique upgrades to their suits - thus the new variants.

Regards to the models that are are out now... the guy with the sword and shield in one hand and plasma in the other hand is commander farsight - he's a special character shas'o.

All the other guys are just crisis suits with various weapon outfits.

Regards to paint differences, go with what looks good. Odd colored head and chest plate, etc.

They could be put together in a second Command Pack.
