Hi all,
I've stopped to ponder the number of games I have at one time or another purchased, and came up with the following (the 'planned' items are purchases which have been planned and will be affected once the rules mentioned are released):

GW
Space Marine/Epic 40K/Epic Armageddon
Man O?War
Space Hulk
Talisman
Warhammer
Warhammer 40,000
Necromunda
Mordheim
Gorkamorka
Inquisitor
Battlefleet Gothic
Warmaster
Lord of the Rings
GW Historical

Non-GW
Dungeons and Dragons
Spelljammer
Monster Island
Hammerin? Iron
Aeronef
Aquanef (planned)
Iron Stars
De Bellis Antiquitatis
Chainmail
Planetfall (planned)

Hybrid
Hulk Victoria

Too many! The points of interest are:
1 - I've only ever played WH, WH40K, Space Hulk, Man O'War, Talisman, Mordheim and Space Marine Epic - with WH, 40K, MoW and Talisman sharing the vast majority of the games.
2 - all non-GW games but D&D and Spelljammer have been purchased in the last year!
This means
(1) not enough time to play - and most of my 'gametime' is taken by modelling and converting and stuff
(2) I'm moving away from GW stuff this year - and it's mainly because of the development by GW of 40K and Epic.
I've certainly entered the Victorian age, with my own mess of an idea with Hulk Victoria, Aeronef, Iron Stars, the planned Aquanef, and Hammerin' Iron (ACW), which I've found refreshing!

And I've also reached a point were I have to stop buying stuff - I'm certain I won't have time to paint all I have in stock before I die, even if I live to be 129; but worse still, I've run out of space to store stuff, unless I but a bigger place. Which, with Univ's lousy wages and local costs, is unlikely to hapen. So I guess I'm at a sort of turning point. I won't abandon GW stuff, as I've got tons to paint (and did I say I also have a nice stock of kits as well?), but I'm certainly going to restrict purchases.
What's planned?
- Any knights and Warhounds, and chaos Squats and androids, which come my way
- a few more Aeronefs
- Aquanef stuff (when produced!)
- some Ironstars stuff (when more appear)
- the new LOTR Threat from the East (or whatever) stuff - they have some really nice models!

Oh, and a box of the new Tau stealths, for conversion to Tautans  :p  :alien:

Anyway - that's some space wasted by me writing things down to sort my ideas and my (modelling) life out.

cheers,
John, feeling terribly old and stuffy this morning

Cheer up there 'V', that's a nice range of games as far as I'm concerned :D
Are you planning on dumping a couple? I'm unsure from the way the post is phrased, 'fraid though that I'll have to think twice before taking any (being in a similar situation to you, small house, little money, too much 'junk' already, etc) and then you mention more LoTR stuff, well that's my pledge not to buy more GW stuff out the window :D
Hmmmm, what Necromunda stuff do you have?
Oh, I did come across a nice Christmas pressie for you, do you want?

Sounds like some timely intervention is required here...  :p

John, I am no different to you, and I daresay many others here are the same.
In fact, I think that list seems a little shorter to the one I could compile!

I too rarely have serious games, and my most frequent opponents are my kids.  I too find modelling and converting is my only regualr wargaming outlet, and moving every 18 months is a major PAIN for breakages and packing up.

So chin up matey!  The Victorian Era is quite the done thing Old chum!

Are you going to keep the Black Templars army? Note that in case you aren't I'm NOT volunteering to buy it for the following reasons:
1) I already have enough marines myself.
2) I just purchased a large Epic IG lot.
3) I just purchased a Crusader army for Warlord.
4) I just changed car, and that alone used up several years' mini budget. :;):

I've listed these a few times before but I just can't resist doing it again.
GW stuff:
1) Man O'War
2) Wh40k (Rogue Trader, 3rd and 4th editions, all softback Imperial Armour books, two of the hardback ones and all Codices)
3) Epic (SM1, SM2 (with all boxes), E40k and E:A)
4) Warhammer (and all army books, the OLD Siege and General's compendium))
5) Necromunda (Da big book)
6) BFG (with Warp Storm & Armada)
7) Warmaster

Non-GW stuff:
8) Warzone (1st, 2nd and Ultimate editions with all add-on books)
9) Chronopia 2nd edition
10) Vor (plus Neo-Soviet & Union forcebooks)
11) GROPOS
12) Turning Point
13) Gear Krieg
14) Flintloque
15) Slaughterloo
16) Ranke & Vyle
17) Maelstrome
18) Strange Tydes
19) Panzerfauste
20) CAV
21) Warlord (and Necropolis army book)
22) OGRE mini rules
23) Future Wars
24) Saurian Safari
25) Combat Zone
26) War Machine (with Escalation & Apotheosis)
27) Fantasy Rules!
28) Armies of Arcana
29) Vis Magica
30) HOTT
31) Flames of War
32) Tank Charts
33) Operation Overlord
34) Spearhead
35) Modern Spearhead
36) Battleground: WWII
37) Sea Wars Fleet Actions
38) Rapid Fire
39) Blitzkrieg Commander
40) Starship Troopers
41) IABSM
42) Disposable Heroes
43) MAATAC

I'm not includeing my RPGs of the few mini rulestets I own but can't remember the name of. I think I have way larger collection of rules than you have so there's nothing to worry about yet.  :alien:

Good grief, Mojarn, I'm sure the list is a lot longer than the last one you'd posted!
Thanks for the therapy guys - and NO, I'm not getting rid of anything (sorry Justiniel, but I'll keep you in mind if it ever comes to that! - er - what pressie? :p )
Tas, I play even less than you at the moment (well, last year, anyway!) - the moves ARE a pain, though.
My main issue is storage space - and that's why I'm pondering life, the universe, and everything - I just do not have space for more stuff!
This all began, however, when I completed that darned megapylon thingy for the competition and realised I might have to store it at work! IF I had more space at work, that is. I might have to dismantle it again, as it is.
Wail!
Anyways, don't worry, Mojarn's helped me realise I've still to develop worse symptoms :p
For queen and country, then! And if anyone can sell me a big house in Malta (going cheap, please!), just PM me...

I go through periods where I go on mass buying sprees only to look back several months later and say WTF!!!

I get irritated with myself because a lot of the games that I buy are out of curiosity but I already know they cannot compete with my absolute favorites, yet I probably spend more time now *trying* to like a game more by re-reading rules, putting together minis, etc, but in the end they sit where they usually belong: in the closet.

I have these two wall units and made a point many years ago that if I couldn't fit all my hobby stuff in there then I have to get rid of something. For awhile it worked. Then I moved and got a big walk-in closet and that opened the flood gates.

I am beginning to get that urge to clean house again. Mainly for the reason above about how I spend time painting minis for games I don't like or know I wont play. I'd like to be able just to stay focused on the games I really really like and not to waste my time on the ones that I don't.

I think what it has come down to, and I bet many of you feel the same way, is that there is a whole universe of imagination in each game system we pick up. We know we dont have the time for a new game, and in all likelihood wont find others that like these games as much as we do, but that doesn't bother us because we still enjoy ripping off the plastic and drooling over the artwork or working on armylists. That is really where the addiction lies, and the one that is the hardest to pull away from.

Hi!

I've pretty much retired from actively acquiring new games. I play epic (when I can) and D&D (which I'm currently active in) and thats pretty much it.

I wasn't really expecting you to get rid of anything so no worries on that score.
I too am rather short on storage space (even if I seem to have only tiny amounts compared to most here, in fact almost all I have is painted :D :D ) and this is the main reason why I'm not expanding into new games. With LoTR and MERP taking care of Fantasy, EPIC taking care of Sci-fi and 20mm/6mm WW2 for 'real life' most of my needs are covered.
Still it is nice to 'borrow' from other minis occasionally

Just out of question does anyone else here play Renegade Legion: Centurion besides me?

Well... aside from the fact it's been far too long since I played it but... it's probably one of my all time favourite sci-fi armour games.

I've wanted to try that game out as I was a HUGE fan of the tank minis back in the day, but considering it is hex based I no longer have very much intrerest in it.

I say that but who knows. I might end up picking up a copy on ebay. . . ???

My favorite moment checking out the game was scrolling through the tank profile book and seeing that the only pic of some of them were the charred remains of them after they'e been blown up. I thought that was pretty stoopid.

If I am going to include a tank in my army, I want to feel positive about it. . .

And you call those "lists".... meh. I have hundreds of different games just counting my RPGs.... and what's this talk about "too many"... mark my words: there's no such thing as too many games.

Hexes? We don't need no steeen-king hexes! :p

I don't think I ever actually played a single game of Centurion using a hex system.

I used to play it with a bunch of Zipper-heads... troopers from Canadian armoured units... and it was always played on a sandtable with tape measures.

The piercing/scraping rules for weapons were what was really unique about the rules set IMO.

But, in reply to Magnus... it is possible to have too many games if it involves having to move a 15 foot cube van worth up 6 flights of stairs... I almost got lynched by my friends the last time I moved. Literally the only thing that saved me was no one had any energy left by the end of it.

I pretty much stopped buying new games a few years ago. I finally came to the realization that it was really just a waste of money. At this point, the only games I buy anything for are Epic and Advanced Squad Leader. I have managed to talk myself out of buying more D&D supplements.

I'm also at that point where I have decided to unlaod a bunch of Avalon Hill games that I will probably never play again or won't miss. If anyone is looking for a specific AH game, let me know; I might be willing to part with it.

Wait a sec, I thought you played Centurian on battletech-like hex maps. . .

*scratches head*

Y'know, I'd actually have to go look at the rules to answer that. It's one of those ones where I've always played the games just like you would with Epic... just using a tape measure in other words.

I personally have never understood the use of hex maps... I mean really, is using a ruler really all that hard? :8:
