Currently I regard the stats for termis and hormis as perfect, but I think raveners need some work to give them a distinctive balanced role.
Hena is right - why would you spawn a hormi when you could have a ravener (apart from the LV problem....) i would like to see some sort of differentiation here. It is curious that raveners (based on warrrior genus whereas all other commons are gaunt genus) are still classed as common brood creatures. Something not quite right there I think.

I think it's purely a game/model effect as the original thought was that forcing 25% in Hormagaunts, Gargoyles, and Termagants was too prohibitive (in the 3.0 lists, all the other sections were *max* 25%, so you really needed a lot of Commons.) so there was a need for a more expensive Common.
Could the solution to the horde/ravener issue be to bump them up to Uncommon Brood? ?I've used, at most, nine Raveners in 2500-2700 points, I could fill that space with Gargoyles easily enough.
Thoughts?

Quote (Chroma @ 19 Nov. 2005 (13:03)) | Termagants have shorter ranged, but more effective, weapons than Guardsmen, so I think FF5+ represents this well. Technically devourers and spinefists (and various other bio-morphs, I see "toxin sacs" on them all the time!) could be in there too. I know everyone thinks of Termagants as the Grots of the Tyranids, but, really, they're the basic Tyranid trooper, like a Guardsman or Ork Boy, and should have some decent stats for the points. | Agreed. Termagaunt FF5+ fits. The effect of fleshborers compensating for shorter range compared to IG troopers has nice symmetry.
Also not sure how good termagaunts would be compared to hormagaunts with FF6+. Only case where termies would be of any good would be when enemy assaults them(and albeit at that point hormies suffer without FF value).
Keep termagaunts as it is. They should be appealing enough to take as, afterall, they ARE what could be considered as most core like unit of tyranids. Definetly not just cannonfodder for better units.

Quote (Hena @ 19 Nov. 2005 (14:42)) | Well... I do like the idea that I can make my infantry hordes with common brood. Then the uncommon brings in the heavier stuff like exocrines, haruspexes and carnies. So in that sense the ravener do belong to common. | Raveners are also good if you want to mirror the 40k "godzilla" army like I have been threatening my friend of doing :) In the 40k version you have Ripper Swarms, 6 Carnifex, and two Hive Tyrants. In the Epic version, I built it with Raveners (since they are the biggest common), AV's, and War Engines... just a silly 2 cents :)

Quote (Hena @ 21 Nov. 2005 (18:11)) | Also I would like to change the transport capasity of Harridan (probably not vituperator to give them differentiation as well) to gargoyles only. | Agreed. Maybe transport 6?

Contrary to previous experience, myraid flights of Harridans carrying Gaunts, Tyranid Warriors and Hive Tyrants instead of Gargoyles both surprised and overwhelmed the defenders of Espandor in a battle that led to the fall of Eclesiarchy headquarters on the cardinal world of Espandor. |
Where does the above quote, taken from the Harridan flavour text, come from?

Hi Chroma,
I wrote that when I started adding color to the text.

I thought you would limit spawning to Marshal actions. So you still are able to spawn when failed Initiative?
Cheers! Steele
