Turn 1

No teleports

Strategy Roll: Ork

With a mighty roar, Emungous Pete strides forward on a double unleashing both soopa-guns on the spiny creatures hiding in the forest near Lesser Node 1, but only trees are slain in the onslaught.

The Expectorator coughs up a response, sustaining fire on the Gargant and catching some of Bludcrusha's Mob in the blast, dropping a power field and killing a boy, but laying 3 blast markers on the warband.

Lesser Node 1 also sustains fire on the Gargant catching a few more of Bludcrusha's boyz. ?Two power fields wink out and another boy dies; 6 blast markers total on the ladz!

Yelling imprecations and threats, Bludbasha gets his ladz moving forward and removes all their blastmarkers: Movin' is better den standin' still getting' hit wif all dat sticky burny stuff!

Hive Tyrant 2 is a bit put off by the bellows of the Orks and it only moves its brood slightly forward pulling most of them away from the Greater Node.

Da Whirlin' Madboyz race forward on a double to pop-up and blaze away at Hive Tyrant 2? to no effect.

Warrior Brood 1 marches straight up the middle to stare directly at Bludcrusha's Mob? and within the synapse of Hive Tyrant 2

Ardgutz doubles his boyz forward and the Odd-boys discharge their weapons creatures in both Warrior 1's and Tyrant 2's broods and the explosions demolish 2 Termagants, 1 Hormagaunt, a Lyco-Exocrine, and a Haruspex.

Warrior Brood 2 doubles up to attempt to flank Ardgutz, firing enough venom to kill 1 Grot and 1 Boy.

Crusha, wanting to get into the action, doubles up towards Lesser Node 1, firing wildly and to no effect.

Finally, Hive Tyrant 1 doubles up with its small brood to stand near Warrior Brood 1, and fire a single shot on Da Whirlin' Madboyz, but strikes nothing.

All the Orks rally up leaving a single blast marker on Emungous Pete, both sides ready for what looks to be a massive punch up!

Turn 2

The Lictors show up forming a chain of command between Tyrants 1 and 2? while Tyrant Brood 2 and Warrior Brood 1 combine to form a single massive brood?

Strategy Roll: Tyranids

With a high-pitched scream, Warrior Brood 2 engages Ardgutz' Mob. ?The boyz show great courage killing 7 Hormagaunts, 3 Raveners, and even 1 Tyranid Warrior for the cost of 1 Nob, 3 Boyz, and 3 Grotz and are able to push the Bugs back.

Following the scent trail of the Lictors, Tyrant broods 1 and 2 rush through the ruins to engage the commingled Blitz Brigade, Bludbasha's Mob, and the Emungous Gargant! ?All three Lictors are slain along with 2 Raveners, 2 Hormagaunts, and a single Tyranid Warrior while 3 Nobz, 2 Deth Koptas and 3 Grots fall to slashing claws. ?Despite the shrieking horde before them, the Orks barely hold on and bush the Tyranids back! (Combat resolution by 1 for the Orks? darn those Grots!)

Encouraged by the victory in the ruins, Ardgutz yells at his ladz to charge, sees that none are following, and yells again to finally get them moving against Warrior Brood 2. ?Gork and Mork laugh mightily as the brood is wiped out without the loss of a single Ork!

Still feeling a bit left out, Crusha's Mob moves through the trees to engage Lesser Node 1 and the commingled remnants of Tyrant Brood 1. ?The Waaagh is powerful as the Orks cut down the Hive Tyrant, 2 Dacto-Exocrine, 1 Carnifex, and 1 Haruspex for a cost of 4 Grotz, 3 Nobz, and 1 Boy. ?They boyz are victorious (by 1!) and the Node is destroyed! ?(I *really* hate Grotz!)

Sensing danger approaching, the Greater Synapse Node calls down 3 Mycetic Spores and spawns generating 3 Raveners, 2 Dacto-Exocrines, 2 Haruspex, and 1 Carnifex to protect it.

With raucous laughter blasting out of its loudspeakers, Enungous Pete doubles forward to blast Hive Tyrant 2' and Warrior Brood 1's combined forces, but manages only to kill 1 Ravener.

The Expectorator coughs nervously, dropping enough acidic phlegm on the Gargant to strip away its last two power fields? easy pickings! (I wish!)

Bludbasha doubles forward to fire on Hive Tyrant 2, but the shots go wild.

All the Orks rally, except the Gargant, which feels naked without its power fields?

Turn 3

Lesser Node 2 erupts out of the ground near the Ork Blitzkrieg, sheltered by ruins.

Strategy Roll: Tyranid

Freshly arrived into the open air, Lesser Node 2 burst open to spawn 3 Raveners, 1 Zoanthrope, and 1 Lyco-Exocrine.

Hive Tyrant 2, along with Warrior Brood 1, takes its battered followers against the metal monstrosity Emungous Pete. ?The battle is fierce and long, supported by the two warbands on either side of the Gargant. ?Massive holes are ripped in the sides of the Orky war engine, but its not enough to stop the Orks and all the Tyranids involved are slaughtered. (Gargant, 4 DC left, no crits.)

Da Whirlin' Madboyz swoop in on the Expectorator engaging it in a fight like gnats against a giant. ?Though 3 Koptas are swatted out of the air, but a lucky shot pierces some vital organ and the horrid beast collapses in a spreading pool of caustic ichor.

Ardgutz boyz are having too much fun playing kick the bughead around to listen to his order to advance and they stay put in the ruins.

Discerning the danger of the strange metal creature, the Greater Synapse Node sustains fire on the Gargant, the Dacto-Exocrines damaging it further, starting a fire, and breaking the morale of the Kaptain. (2 DC left!)

Bludbasha's boyz are also distracted by victory, but move forward a bit towards the Tyranid objectives.

Seeing the seething mass of Tyranids behind him, Crusha orders his boyz to march back there, but to them it feels like leaving the fight and they only move back grudgingly and half-heartedly.

The fire quickly goes out on the Gargant, but it's not enough to get them back in the fight and it stays put, the Kaptin arguing with the Mekboy about who's responsible, while the other Orks rally.

End of Turn: Orks 1 (BTS) vs Tyranids 1 (Blitzkrieg)

Turn 4

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Orks

Thinking it's all alone, Da Whirling Madboyz engage the Greater Synapse Node, not realizing the brood creatures on the hill beside it will rush to its defense. ?The fight is over quickly as 3 of the flying machines crash, covered in slime and acid, while none of the Tyranids are harmed. ?The remaining flyers race away from the danger zone. (Yay! I actually won an engage!)

Still not feeling safe, the Greater Node sustains fire on the Gargant? scoring a single damaging hit. (1 DC left)

Crusha's Mob doubles back to the Ork Blitz to wrestle it from Lesser Node 2, but their shoddy marksmanship scores no hits.

Reacting to the danger, Lesser Node 2 engages the nearby Orks of Crusha's Mob killing 5 of them and sending them fleeing. ?Only 2 Raveners are killed, but it seems the Node was fatally wounded and it dies, leaving its brood stranded deep in enemy territory. (And losing the Blitz.)

Bludbasha moves his mob forward to one of the Tyranid objectives, and seeing none of the Krawlies about, begins shouting out a loud battle song, punctuated by gunfire.

Feeling like a winner, Warboss Ardgutz leads his boys to the other forward objective, proudly plants his Waaagh Banner in a steaming mass of Bug guts and lets out a tremendous roar, "Dis planet iz ours, ladz!!!"

End of Turn: Orks 2 (BTS, Take and Hold) vs Tyranids 0 (none)

Wow, the Orks can really dish it out! ?I usually play them with smaller, though soop-ed up mobs. ?I thought the low activation count would be their undoing, but they soaked up the hits and dished out the damage? and I got *so* close to cracking the Gargant? well next time!

Next up, White Scar Space Marines!

Why have you changed the licotrs save? ?I assume it is to do with their cameleon abilities but it doesn't seem high enough.

We thought reinforced armour just seemed strange for the Lictor, as it is its chameleon powers and quick reflexes that would save it, not its ability to take hits. ?So, invulnerable save seems to reflect that better. ?It gets saves of 5+/6+ against normal attacks, and 6+ against Macro and TK attacks, as opposed to 5+ just against Macro. ?

The change doesn't seem that big and, to me, it just feels better.

I surpose it isn't much of a change.

How did you find the expectorator? useful for the points or would you of prefered more dacto exocrines and the independent allowance spent on stealers?

Well, we played with the Expectorator at 200 points with 2 BP, and I've never had Genestealers accomplish anything so I didn't miss them.  At 200 points it seemed fine, though I'd like to be able to field them in a Brood of 1-3.

In the fight against the Deth Koptas, if it hadn't been for that lucky critical, it would've most likely won the engage and continued firing.  I quite liked it.

It's only real Achille's Heel is being a war engine without reinforced armour.

Thanks! ?I was really excited to find plastic hex bases. ?*laugh*

I'm using the *old* Biovore as an Expectorator, just liked recommended in the list. ?*laugh*

I posted a few more pics in the Deployment section.
