I guess that it must be a little strange to people not used to it all. ? ?I believe that the field in which one of the final battles fought in the second world war is now covered in red poppies, and is a stirring sight. Since then, the poppy has always represented war memories in the UK. (Did anyone see the episode of Blackadder Goes Forth?)
