Here I'm varnishing the wood with a nice walnut varnish, which deepened up the colour of the jelutong and helped bring out the grain.
You can also see one of the vac formings with the stripes sandblasted into it....

And now... a big jump, as I was working my socks off last night so didn't have much chance for picture taking!
Here is the model as it looked at 10 o'clock last night (when we got chucked out of the studio!)
The base has been painted, and the wood sections glued together and the plastic formings epoxied on top. I've lso started some of the styrene detailing....

Then it was off home, and a night of slaving away at my desk (and keyboard for the essay!)- There was a ton of styrene work to do, so I just stuck Radio4 comedies on, one after the other, and got stuck in with the scalpel and superglue...
I added vanes to the sides of the large tower to hide the gap where the vac form didn't fit perfectly, made shaped panels to hide ugly bits and glue marks, and stuck strips and round rod down the sides and across the stripes of the smaller tower.
This morning, I had this, the finished model!

And, to finish, a side view on the cityscape.
I have to say, I really enjoyed the project; it was a lot of fun (although a LOT of work, especially in this last week)! It was interesting to work in this scale, and to produce a model in such a different style to what I've become used to with wargames figs and terrain.
The degree of abstraction and the way models are 'representative' rather than true perfect replicas at this scale was a little weird at first, but I found it does give you a lot of freedom in the choice of materials you use, the way you work with them, and the aesthetics of a final piece....
Hope you like it!
Cheers, ~G

I see the Archemeny slaughtering the population and building a pyramid of skulls that dwarfs Stormy's tower to honour their foul and twisted Gods...

Or attempting to, before the Death Knights space marines bring the righteous vengeance of the Emperor.
