Dafrca and Gang,
I wish it were that easy. Sadly it is not up to us. It is his choice to make. If he wants to allow that thread to chase him away all our kind thoughts will not change it. I agree, I would not leave, and I hope he changes his mind, but I will accept what ever he elects to do. Dafrca |
I'd rather he stays as well.
Unofrtunately, it appears that he wants to brood like a less mature person. I don't understand it since the argument wasn't "ad hominem" (against him personally), but it was an argument about the legality of illegal downloads. These sort of arguments occur at least once a year on every Epic board I've ever known and it's nothing to get excited about in the end of ends.
I really expect more from Gandalf-the-Grey. I don't want to offend him, but this is childish behavior.
Shalom and best regards to everyone, Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!
Maksim's right about this topic apearing now and again around the epic boards and forums.
But to be fair, sometimes the respose to such a post are pretty agressive sometimes (not that they were in this case). I remember a few "doosies" in the past.
I hope he will return at some juncture, in the meanwhile, as I have said before, its best to keep this topic on private conversation channels.

Wow guys, I am touched by all the attention. ?Listen, I was just a little pissed about the topic being closed more than I was anything else. ?This is Cyber's forum so he can do what he wants, but I hate being censored. ?I guess I don't like the idea of not being to discuss whatever I want with guys I have come to like, but I am not one to hold back so I'd rather post where I can say whatever the f-u-c-k I want. I probably hate censorship for than I do anything else, and that is how it kind of felt to me. ?
Childish? Less mature? I am already a thief so what why would any of that bother me? It doesn't, but thanks anyway. I really wasn't brooding. . . I was moving on. . .
It is kind of ironic, I once got kicked out of an Urban Terror online server once for 'bad language', yet we were all playing a game that simulates killing each other. ?Heads explode, blood trails when you bleed, but '@sshole' is a unexceptable. ?I am not saying any of you would actually go and commit a crime, or hack anyone up with a chainsword, but to get all excited about these things during a game does say something about our frames of mind. ?I mean, there is a line between fantasy and reality, and fantasy does say a lot about someone. ?You can say I'm wrong for downloading MP3s, but I could also call you sick simulting death and destruction. No I don't mean if you are going to play Warhammer 40k, you might as well be a murderer. I am just saying we are all a lot less righteous than we'd like to believe. ?It really isn't a big deal, and freaking out over downloading rules or worrying about GW's lawyers really isn't either. ?Mircosoft cannot shut down sites for giving out serial keys. ?GW cannot shut you down for sharing info about KAZA. ?Besides, they are more aware of it than you think. ?Anyway, I am not mad at anyone, and are glad those who have downloaded whatever they wanted are happy.
You'll see me around tearing it up elsewhere.
BTW, I just won an Epic Forge World Warhound off of Ebay for $5.50. ?I know it's just a Warhound, but were you guys sleeping? ?It's a Forge World titan!

Gandalf-the-Gray,
I'm glad to see you back. I'm sorry that you aren't staying. We've been richer for having you.
I have had enough. Have fun in your games. |
The above quote is how you started this thread.
Childish? Less mature? I am already a thief so what why would any of that bother me? It doesn't, but thanks anyway. |
I don't remember anyone calling you a thief. I do remember some members saying that what you're doing is thievery. It is a significant difference. Don't take those things personally.
In one of the recent E-A threads, someone said that I had overdone things. The thread was pretty forward, but I didn't take it personally. I don't think the person intended their criticism to be directed towards me as a person, but to my comments that they disagreed with. We're all friends anyway with something in common.
I really wasn't brooding... I was moving on...
Gandalf,
Your original thread didn't communicate much of what you now wrote. That isn't very thoughtful especially for some people that have treated you like a part of the Epic family.
Family members fight, but then move on despite the differences. I don't think any of us who presented the other side of the Kazaa issue hold any grudges against you.
Not brooding would mean that you wouldn't make any sort of public attention-getting display. Plenty of people "move on" without feeling a need to say anything. Posting a short message saying "I have had enough. Have fun in your games." sounds exactly like brooding to me. I work with children every day so brooding is something I deal with every day.
Moving on would seem to indicate that you don't think much of our Epic group. Your message would seem to reinforce that.
Hopefully I'm wrong, but it doesn't really matter. You've already made some decisions and stated what you intend to do.
I guess I don't like the idea of not being to discuss whatever I want with guys I have come to like, but I am not one to hold back so I'd rather post where I can say whatever the f-u-c-k I want.
It is kind of ironic, I once got kicked out of an Urban Terror online server once for 'bad language', yet we were all playing a game that simulates killing each other. ?Heads explode, blood trails when you bleed, but '@sshole' is a unexceptable.
It appears that what freedom means to you is a ?complete lack of structure or limit. In other words, that's anarchy.
We all live in societies with cultural norms or mores. Almost all cultures look at foul language as a sign of disrespect for others.
I come from one such culture that looks at foul language as a sign of disrespect for everyone with whom you are communicating. You can express dislike or criticism for something perfectly well without using foul language. When you use those words, you express disrespect for me and the rest of the community here.
I realize that you probably don't intend to offend us by using that language, but I find it distasteful nonetheless. If I had my preference, we'd all act a little more good-natured and like gentlemen. Most of us do a very fine job of that, which is why we have a community here.
I don't want to single you out or embarrass you, Gandalf, but I do want you to understand why some people object to your foul language. I apologize if I have made you uncomfortable.
BTW, I just won an Epic Forge World Warhound off of E-bay for $5.50. I know it's just a Warhound, but were you guys sleeping? It's a Forge World titan!
Congratulations. Mazel tov!
Cheers and best regards to everyone,
Maksim-Smelchak.
