A few more pics for you before I head back down to the workshop after lunch; these are from our first 'processes' projects, which are designed to teach us how to use the machines and equipment in easy to manage chunks.
We were given the bubble bath bottle to replicate in blue foam- no easy task as it is a very irregular shape! I finished mine off last night, and was very pleased with it overall, there were some rough spots, but the shape was almost perfectly spot on.
Product concept models like this are all about precision and being neat - patience is a virtue when you spend 3 hours every day sanding continiously!

And lastly- showing it with the lid removed!
Hope you like (sorry it isn't the most exciting thing in the world)!
Cheers, ~G

I take it there is some sort of 'replicating machine' involved, just a set of calipers and some sandpaper doesn't bear thinking about Looks really good though, hopefully you'll get top marks. And I notice the foam mock-up of your building in the background too, how's that going?

Nice work, Stormy. Your bottle looks like the real thing.

Here is the master I'll be using to vac form half of the skyscraper model..
It isn't quite finished in these pics, as it will be sanded to shape first with the sides curving in to a point....

...and a view of the top, showing the almost gothic arch shape the section will be when sanded into it's final form.
The wood is Jelutong, which is absolutely lovely to work with, but not cheap.
Should have all the sanding on this half finished tommorow, and maybe even a first vac forming to show you...
Cheers, ~G

After ripping the hell out of it on the belt sander last night, I now have a chunk that looks like this!

Still got loads of hand sanding to do to remove all the belt marks and dips, and get the curves as precise as I can...
I've just ordered some more wood for the other half of the building, and should get this cut today.
I'll leave you with this side view...
