Hi Guys,
I had a great birthday!
Thanks for all the well wishing!
Last Friday, my family, girlfriend and I went out for a big dinner. We ate at a local Russian restaurant called Stolichnyi and the food was good if a bit over-priced. I ate cabbage rolls and meat cutlets as well as a very good bowl of Borscht (Cabbage and beat soup with sour cream). I also nibbled on a few of my girlfriend's Pelmenyi (A sort of Russian ravioli).
My girlfriend bought me a copy of Monopoly in Russian. I think I told her too many stories of the Russian Monopoly games I had played previously. My last set was destroyed in a freak champagne accident several years ago during a New Years party.
We went to a board game event on Saturday that was fine except for a militant lesbian woman that was bothering me. The group is public so I just weathered the obnoxious behavior with the most class I could. It wasn't easy.
I also received a telephone call from Dafrca, which was the highlight of Saturday. I think that he's a great guy and I'm very happy to have such a good friendship with him.
Diana and I went shopping for her on Sunday before It took her the train station to head back home. I received another little present from her of some of the new Star Wars Micro Machines from Target. She really liked my Hoth game and I think she wants me to run a Clone Wars game as well even though I want to do a better version of Endor next.
I came over to visit my folks and take my nephews trick-or-treating on Monday. My mother had gven me a copy of the new ftnasy art book Wizardology, but the real surprise came after I returned from trick-or-treating. My father along with the other members of my family purchased me a new computer! I was totally taken by surprise because my parents are struggling to help out my sister, a single parent, so I expect that most of the family resources (includiing many of my own) will go towards her and her children.
It's a nice computer and they also chipped in to get my some virus protection program. Earlier this year,I got hit by a cruddy virus and it took me almost a week to get it cleaned up. I still am tracking down the spyware that crept in when the security breach happened. I suppouse that I should have expected it considering that I'm currently running an upgraded 1995 computer with Windows 98! Still, I've always subscribed to the "If it ain't borken, don't fix it" principle and it met my needs more than adequately (E-mail and word processor). I'm not a big fan of the fancier graphics intensive games so the older soft and hardware never bothered me.
And to top all of that of, the well wishing from the folks here really brought a smile to my face. Thanks, guys! I'm very proud to a part of the Epicomms community!
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.
