Oh no... Now you have got me seriously looking at Hybrid! Argh! It looks like skirmish Space Hulk in a dark fantasy setting! Is that correct? Is there rules for improving a warband, getting new minis, skills and equipment, etc? Thanks.

Anyone here ever play West End's Star Wars Battle Miniatures?

This isn't to be confused with Wizkid's more recent Star Wars Miniatures. West End came out with a set of miniature rules to complement their Star Wars role playing game in the mid 1990s. It got some recognition for being a nice game system back in the day, but I don't think it ever really caught on.

So what do I do? I pick up a few box sets along with the Starter Set. Why? I guess I miss the early days before The Phantom Menace polluted our young souls, and playing a game that was designed for only IV, V, and VI in mind, I had to have it.

The reality though is that Wizkid's Star Wars Miniatures is a far better investment than the old West End games. West End's game is really meant to be squad based supplemented by characters and droids, while Wizkids treats everyone like a character. West End's rules can be somewhat of a hassel, and since there is a better game out there, I can't say unless you are a diehard Star Wars fan, pass on this if it is catching your curiosity on Ebay.

I been going through the process of clipping off the stand the figs are molded on and mounting them on Warmachine bases. Many of the characters look great, like Han Solo and Boba Fett. Even the Death Star Droid looks awesome. In addition, if you manage to find the old Starter Set, you'll be pleasently surprised to find that all of your additional figures will fit in the box along with the rulebook and templates. Big plus in my book.

If you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, you might enjoy reading up on this and painting the figs, but I doubt you'll actually sit down and play a game. Wizkids has produced a much better game and I would recommend you put your money towards that. If you like painting, then I do recomend some of the minis. A Rebel or Stormtrooper squad always looks cool, and many of the characters are well done for the time they were made in.

Hi!

Wow!

I actually owned that book!

But never played it....  :(

I love the Hybrids too. Some of my favorite troop models of all time:

All hail the Heresiarch! :p

Seriously though... the rules once you get used to them flow really well.

And as far as models go, I just wish that the canopic dolls were available as a separate pack. Undead Dwarves with their souls contained in a doll are such a cool concept.

Frankly an RPG in set in the Confrontation world would be enough to get me back into playing RPGs.

If anyone is interested I have a beta (photo)copy of the Star Wars 28mm sci-fi skirmish game that was supposed to be produced by Global Games under licence from West End Games right before they both went bankrupt in and around 1999.

As I understand it the rules ended up being used by Global Games Europe as their Stalingrad skirmish rules but for sci-fi enthusiats it might make an interesting "could have been" thing.

Just drop me a PM and I'll track them down and scan them for you.

Groan....me too :p

It looks very simialr to the Doom boardgame too.

My real questions are:
How good would it be for younger kids?, and
Is it suitable for Solo play?

These are m,y 2 big issues as I rarely get the chance to play big kids (ie grown-ups!) and I already have all the SHulk stuff I need.

It does look good though :)

And not to leave out the Griffins, here's one of my favorites: The Inquisitor:

Aye- I love the Griiffin figures. I may own a few....
They are being kept in blister until my painting standard has improved.

Cheers

The game doesn't require a lot of space, so if you are pressed for space you might appreciate it. Keep your eyes glued on Ebay for minis. They don't turn up very often.

If theres anything you need out of the line feel free to PM me with what your looking for. I actually bought AOG's entire remaing stock of Rebellion minis for an absurdly low price. I have a fair number of multiples with some gaps in the line so I can't promise anything but...

What can I say other than "I'm a packrat" :p

And regarding Hybrid... Cry Havoc magazine does indeed have addition Hybrid scenarios and cards in each issue. The scenarios are in the smaller supplement packaged in the polybag with the main magazine.

As well, issue #3 also has a new Hybrid tile in it.

Rebellion does look interesting ... I like getting terrain in a game.  Also I think, GZG makes some of the best 6mm Sci-fi infantry (next to G/W-F/W) and their AFVs are not bad either.  In a recent e-mail GZG (Jon, IIRC?), hinted at producing 6mm Hammer's Slammers, my fav Sci-fi force ... obviously (see my Av !)  Old Crow does some good 6mm too !   Love to have the Slammers take on an Epic force (IG, SM, Ork etc.) !   Just my 2? ... :D

Based on what happens when anything fleshy gets hit with a powergun, it wouldn't be much of a contest, would it?  I'm pretty sure that a 2cm powergun will outshoot a Heavy Bolter, in range, sustainability, and damage at the target, never mind how utterly gross a 20cm tank gun is.

Jon from GZG did x-rules for Slammers in DS, about 10 years ago (?).  I've got them SAV'd ... He suggested, among other things, the Slammers should be outnumbered to make it a game ... I've got to agree ... those Powerguns wielded by elite Mercs are real Badd A-s-s-e-s !! :;):
