A VERY interesting little fact I learnt today, from a part-time GW staffer who is on our course:
Guess which rather well-known Epic sculptor was a graduate from my course?
....Why, none other than the extraordinarily talented Will Hayes, that's who!
Will post some sketches of my building in a bit....

Here are the development roughs, created using ideas from a Frank Gehry sketch...
This first one is an out of scale first idea...

Cheers, ~G | It does look a touch like a Power station cooling tower. I'm not sure this is a good look.

*mutters* well, I won't use the triangle braces at the bottom then...
Bear in mind the whole left side is supposed to be glass/steel; can you see it in less 'cooling tower' style now?

I must say the triangular metal box work was part of the problem. What are the angular marks coming out the top? some sort of metal fins?

Yeah, just some decorative spikey bits (spikes are always good! ) - I felt the top looked rather sparse in the way it stopped abruptly, so threw them on.
Expect quite a few things to change in the design before I finish the final model.

Aw, come on Justiniel, this is fun! I agree with the flow of spikes - something a bit like a sea anemone, which is what the building reminds me of. Give 'em a function too - I'm no architect or civil eng, but perhaps they could be integrated into a tensegrity sort of design - the triangular girders at the botom might have suggested this. I guess this last sentence clearly demonstrates that I'm waffling....

No no, comment away- this is just the sort of constructive criticism I need!
I agree with your thoughts on the spikes- having them flowing out of the structure of the building would be a great idea- I'll work this into the next sketch, and develop on the other comments, plus more of my own ideas...
Cheers, ~G

Vac former induction today (although I have used one before!)
I managed to wangle keeping one of the casts of the little Alien beastie we were forming- here he is...
As the detail isn't very crisp given the limitations of the process, a Necromunda monster with its own slimey pit would be a nice simple model to make him into, and some suitable mucky slime would make up for the smooth corners nicely.

Nice thingy, Storms! I'm hoping we'll be getting one of these beasties (er, the machine, not the facehugger) for the dept. - fingers crossed!
