I just picked a couple of Konami prepainted Battlestar Galactica Cylon Base Stars up from eBay for about $5 US each plus shipping.

All told for about $17 US I got two *fantastically* detailed stand ins for a space stations. This little sucker is about 3" across and a 1" high.

The same company also does dropships from the movie Alien that could certainly do doubly duty for wargaming as well:

And for Maksim... how about an "epic scale" At-AT from Satr wars? ?

Damn... like I needed more things to spend money on! ?:D ?:oo ?

Most odd...

Here is the actual Konami website links for them. Much better pics anyways... I've now talked myself into trying to have a full flight of dropships now for my IG Stromtroopers.  :{

and the drop ship... a full 4 inches / 10 centimetres long:

I watched it on DVD last night... what an odd coincidence!

I sat through the full 'directors cut' - now, some of these scenes where cut with a reason! - namely cringeworthy dialouge "I'm the ultimate badass" etc.. Oh dear. :blues:

Excellent film though, all he same... Mr Giger's art and design is just something else.

Sorry, I'm going to go all 'film buff' now, but I disagree totally.  The extra scenes add more depth to the characters (yeah, the 'badass' line is awful, but it's a big contrast to when the same character start's whining about 'game over, man!' - geddit?), especially the bit where Ripley learns about her daughter bing dead - that explains why she is so protective of Newt.

Anyway, you have to admit the scene with the sentry guns is wicked!

Okay, rant over, back to topic:  yeah, very cool models!  :)

P.S. Yeah, Giger's design is fantastic, but apparently he hates the aliens from all the other films, saying that he thought the one in Alien: Resurrection 'literally looked like [insert profanity for human waste here]'.

Some of the dialogue throughout the film is pretty poor (although no-where near as awful as Predator). I have to disagree that I think that information about Ripleys daughter should have been cut - it just makes the film so formulaic. The sentry gun, hell leave them in!

Oh, the sentry guns were cool, yeah... :D

Perhaps that was a blanket statement- the extras were not all bad, some add a lot to the film, but not all good, I think you agree. :;):

I was actually re-reading H R Giger's official site last night, there is a lot on the bustup he had with Fox over the designs of the creatures, getting credits in the later films, and so on- and he is rightly aggreived I think- would there have been three sequels to Alien without his totally different and horrifying design?
I think not somehow...

Must track down a copy of his Necronomnicon sometime for my art books collection. :)

I have that somewhere too. It is becoming a rare book, I think.

Now, how do I order a Dropship and APC from Konami?  I can't read the japanese!

Hmmmm... 4" long would make it about 1/100 scale, IIRC, maybe smaller.  Damn.  I was hoping for one of the Halcyon 1/72 (25mm scale) models somewhere.

The depressing part is you can't.

The figs in question are a concpet known as "gashapon". The roginal gashapon figs were prepainted, collectable plastic toys based of popular Japanese cartoons, manga, movies etc sold from vending machines.

The higher end sci-fi market took the concept and started cranking out more expensive prepainted, collectable plastic toys based off popular Japanese cartoons, manga, movies etc...

Generally they put one or two maufacturing runs out and when the figs are gone they're gone. Hello eBay.

As a side note, I can also point out that this is where WizKidz and Wizard's of the Coast stole their collectable miniature game ideas from orginally.
