On the playtest board an interesting topic came up.
What size table do you play your epic games on?

I have two 6 x 4 tables which are foldaway types. For small games we use just a single. For bigger games we play usually on a 6 x 8 but one of the most enjoyable we had was a big attack/defence game fighting down a 12 x 4 table. That was really brutal and even with special scenario rules and a reinforcement schedule it got down to the wire.

Hi!
At least 6 by 8 feet. I own one of the warzone campaign boards that measure 9 x 6 feet, pretty big. I like larger gaming surfaces to accomodate very large epic game. Also if I ever play a game with large scale figs I feel like I have manuever room.

For BFG games I much prefer using the floor to have a large area. ?Does anybody remember that huge BFG table that GW had for Games Day one year (2002?). ?It was a massive square with a cutout for an umpire in the middle when you couldnt reach your minis in the centre

Man do I feel silly. Because the training games in EpicA were 90cm x 120cm we started to just play all our games on the 90cm x 120cm size.
Seems like almost everyone at least plays on a 120cm x 180cm minimum.
Must say, I wish I could have seen the 4' x 12' game. Wow, how many points did you use and how long was the game?

I prefer larger tables because: more space = more room to maneuver!
We usually play on a 4'x6', but I prefer a 6'x8' or greater.
My absolute desirable minimum is 4'x4' although if it's the difference between playing and not playing then I'll play on smaller.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Quote (dafrca @ 12 2003 June,11:02) | Must say, I wish I could have seen the 4' x 12' game. Wow, how many points did you use and how long was the game? | It was out on for the local wargames club as a demo and it was very cool. Quite a few years ago now, it was using SM2 Rules and was setup with 6 players. Each side had a grand commander anmd 2 subordinate commanders. An umpire oversaw the whole lot to keep everybody honest
Each subordinate commander had (from memory) something like 5k points and had specific objectives down the table. The Grand Commander then had an additoinal 10k-ish points which he could assign to either commender to support their advances or shore up crumbling flanks. The defenders had a lesser amount but also had fortifications, mines, offboard artillery etc.
Each turn there were random events which included reinforcements, extra support and the like. There were some other nasty suprises lurking around too, like when a detachment of guardsmen advanced into a forrest to find it occupied by wild carnivorous plantlife which in the ensuing CC took out half the poor sods. Or the time when some chaos cultists shot up a building, to them find out that it was an orphanage and the psychic screams of the kids had attracted some extra help for the good guys. Stuff like that went on all afternoon to the enjoyment of all.
It went from about 10am to 6pm with 3 half hr breaks. In the end it was a marginal attacker victory because of the casualties sustained. It was probably the most enjoyable game of epic I have ever played.

I have a measly 4x8 in my garage. I hope to up-scale when we get out of this house we are in.

Everone has at least a 12' x 12' playing area in their house- its the convicing of wives to move the furnature and stopping mega titans (aka Children) and chaos beasts (aka dogs) from crunching your beloved minis thats the problem
Seriously, its a great solution- simply roll out a few battlescape (or whatever) mats and get playing. You can have great fun and there are limitless possibilities.

Fortunately the only "Mega-Titans" and "Chaos Beasts" I have to be concerned about are made by G/W or F/W ... ...
