Hi!
Interesting.
I've tried hard to think about a sci-fi novel, author or series that motivates me to game it in miniatures. I'm having a hard time. The closest may be SST, although I think the new galactica makes me want to have space battles.
Odd how historical movies inspire me to game and sci-fi doesnt. I didnt realize this until the question was posed.
Most interesting.

Hmm, I think you may be right. I think, had I wargamed in my earlier youth, sci-fi would have been more inspiring. Now, it seems only historical films catch my fancy.

Let's see:
Starship Troopers (and Roughnecks!)
Appleseed (shoot, anything by Masamune Shirow)
Aliens
Kingdom of Heaven (almost got the bretonnians out of the box, to be built and painted)
Otogi Zoshi (small-unit historical stuff)
It's not a film/series, but the Black Company series, Dragonmaster series, the Slammers, Honor Harrington ...
Oh, yeah, ditto on the chick flick leading to gaming.

I like "Space Above and Beyond" ... sometimes you can still catch it on Sci-fi !
oooo....yeah...SAaB is possibly the best series ever to come out of network tv (started on CBS I believe). And of course they canceled it. RRRR. I wish it was on DVD, I would buy that.

I really liked that series, also. It was cancelled for the usual reason, lousy ratings.  I love catching reruns of it on the Sci-Fi Channel.

It was cancelled because the masses cannot appreciate brillance. They want reality tv instead.
