Now I know for sure the new ?Official? forum is just gone silly. It is less then two weeks old and the Bureaucrats and Fools are clearly in charge already.

OK, to understand the story I am about to share you must know something about their forum. In the General section they have asked everyone to post a tag onto the front of their subject lines to help people know the content. Thus I might post [Epic] Why I love Supper Heavies for example. Now so far this makes a lot of sense to me. Here is where it gets silly?

I go to the Necromunda section. The Jack Hole who is in charge there is making people who post there add the [NEC] tag to every post. Now as the Mods do not allow any posts in this section not about Necromunda and as they police these areas and delete or move any posts not totally within the scope, what does that leave?

That is right, only [NEC] threads.

If I need to tag a post left in a rules section that it is for that rules section, it is just going silly. I think I will need to stop going there again. Just too jacked up for me right now.

Pixelgeek, if you read this, I pray for you man.

I know, they say it will be reviewed in a month, but the 'General' section is just one big Mongolian Cluster *&^% and even when you do a search, and finish finding one post when you go back you have to do a search again to get back where you were

*eyes roll*

Ahhh the ides of improvement, or in the words of Dr. Mcoy, "I know engineers they love to change things"

I definitely feel for you PG, and after 'experiencing' some of the other Mods it makes me wonder if they had put an age limit on becoming a Mod, or just grabbed the most 'talkative' *grunts* gentleman in each forum.

Makes me want to wait a month before going back to see the new, probably old, improvements.

Well, I'm glad the other ERC members weren't put in PG's position, hell I'm sorry PG is.

The Forum initial concept is however very poor. You have to wonder why it was done like this. It even ignores one of GW's core competencies which is the models. A seperate Painting and Modelling thread would have done more for cross game ideas than the current one forum for everything but the rules idea. It is simply unusable, especially for those with slow conections (slower then modem does exist, try modem in poor country). And the stickies make it worse, every sticky reduces the viewable new threads by one.

What I hope will develope is the general area, useful for announcements and cross game posts.

General areas for each game/group of games (either on setting or scale).

A fan ideas area (maybe be able to go with just one).

Mixed painting and modeling area.

A projects area. This wouldn't be a forum but a place on the main site/in each sub site where a project would be listed, along with its files and other pertinant information such as availible resources, expected completion date and area where development is taking place.

For instance AMTL would have the latest test list, perhaps older test lists, links to archived threads, links to pictures of OOP models, an expected completion date, project timeline and link to its forum here as the development area.

Chaos would ahve a similar thing except the development area wouldn't be listed currently, perhaps just something like 'core group development, invitation only' with a note to say when public testing would commence, and when it did the same core group notice plus a link tot he Experimental section ont he Epic website.

Articles for Fanatic that people want help on can be up here as well.

I guess the model would be open source software development (I think) and would keep things as transparent as possible and more importantly easily accessable tot he public while still groupin gthem together so peoples interest can still be captured by other projects.

It all stinks.
To be honest, it has for some time guys despite the best efforts of "a few good men" - and most of them coinhabit here.
I gave up on it seriously about a year ago apart from the odd trawl.

I thank those who have perserveered to develop the army lists, but I couldnt

Hi Guys,

I just made my first post over there as an experiment and I did it without a tag line in the general section.

Let's see how it goes.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

The [NEC] tag thing is another example of them (be they GW or the Mods) deciding to make up a rule and enforce it before they actually bother to TELL people. Do you see any mention of the rule in the Necro forum stickies? And the general forum specifically says they arent needed.

Bloody crazy. You'd think they could maintain some level of common sense.

And what do you expect to happen? You're posting in a manner that you have been asked not to.

I really don't understand the point of your "experiment"?

The moderator is not following the posted rules and I am sure that once Andy and/or Jervis come back to work on Monday it will get sorted out.

Yes, I know the new Forum isn't the same as the old one but, and lets be realistic, the old Forum is not ever coming back. It wasn't intended to be the same sort of social environment that this board is and it was found to be counter-productive for the purpose that it was originally intended.

So it changed.

And after 20 or so days when they start to ask for comments about the Forum don't get your hopes up by suggesting things that will take it back to being the old Epic Forum. 'Aint gonna happen. So don't bother getting your hopes up and don't complain when it doesn't happen.

There are going to have to be some changes and I think that there are a few things on Chris' list that may get implemented.

But, and this is an important thing, if you have complaints such as the activity of the Necromunda moderator then email them to Andy or to me so we can act on them. Complaining about the guy here will certainly help you vent but if the guy is out of line or you think he is out of line then complain to the other moderators (via email please) or send Andy Hall an email.

I can't see any of these suggestions happening. Primarily because this is the sort of material that was mentioned as being problematic in the first place.

The Forum is going to try and focus on the experimetnal rules and a small number of lists in order to get those done and finished. With Fan areas, project areas (like painting and modelling) and multiple lists there was a lot of activity but not as much focused on critical areas.

The purpose of the Forum is to help develop rules and answer rule questions for people. All the other areas were a) draawing focus away from areas that needed attention and b) causing a hell of a lot of problems regarding moderation.

The Forums are going to be very rules/FAQ/development focused.
