I was wondering how other Minervan generals mix and match their different tanks in the tank companies.

For my two tank companies I was thinking about:

- 5 LR Exterminator+5 LR Battle Tank, 575 points, a solid spearhead that can shred infantry and tanks at short range. It even has some punch and the chance of placing some BM at long range with 5 battle cannons.

- 5 LR Thunderer+3 LR Demolisher+2 LR Battle Tanks, 525. A bit cheaper assault gun formation. For destroying that pesky infantry in cover. And a couple of battle cannons for long range BM placing.

Any more ideas??

Those are pretty good FMs IMO, lord-b. The other way to look at it is to build them around FF values. If you're placing BMs, you still may want to get close enough to support the assault, so Exterminators and thunderers are a good combo of IC for initial prepping, and then adding a number of 3+ in FF for support of an assaulting FM. This build is even cheaper than with standard LR and the shorter range isn't so much of an issue if you use them in close coordination with other tank comapanies. I tend to add a hydra to my tank companies to make air attacks more difficult.

Unfortunately, maxing out the other way, on AT fire, gets helluva expensive with the vanquishers, executioners, and tank hunters. But a nice shadowsword company can take that role instead (always thought it was funny how a SH company is the bargain choice in a minervan list :) )

Thanks for the interesting ideas.

Mixing Thunderers and Exterminators in the same formation seems also like a good combination. And since I plan to finally convert and have 5 Thunderers and 5 Exterminators, it is possible.

In fact, it would be better switching to this:

- 5 Thunderers+5 Exterminators [short range infantry counter] 475 points

- 10 LR Battle Tank, for main shooting and engagement. 625 points

Even better for having my SC in the first tank Co. avoiding having BTS and CS in the same formation.

I have a total of 26 tanks, so I could field a tank platoon of the last 3 LR Battle Tank plus the 3 LR Demolishers.

Of course my favorite variants is the Exterminator. I consider it more a MBT than a specialist (just like a regular LR but shorter range and less points). If only I could just convert all of my 26 tanks!!

Well what do I have to contribute now?

Nothing.

Go ahead jimmy, that's why it's out there.

I don't like mixed Companies of Russes because I prefere my formations to have one Task. I like to have one LR-Coy with two Vanquishers for MBT and one Coy entirely of LR Exterminators for FF duty. But I don't have experimented with LR + LR Ext. Sounds interesting.

But I focus on one point to achieve a breakthrough there and if there are benefits of mixed coys is a thing I am not fond of.

Thunderhawks with Chars + Assault and Devastors inside. Air-Assault and the SH-Coy should be broken. Two of them should deliever heavy blows to the SHeavys.

Impressive PDF, Spectrar Ghost. You do good work.

Quote:
Use the Recon formation (if you set
one aside) to screen the Artillery from Teleporters and
Air Assault. Remember, you cannot teleport into a unit’s
ZoC, and a n air assauly can only enter the ZoC of the
formation it is assaulting. Situate your Scouts around the
Artillery such that thay are outside of 5cm of the Arty, (to
prevent intermingling) but their ZoC overlaps the artillery
completely. This will mean any Teleport or Air Assault will
need to have the Recon formation removed in order to
strike the Artillery in an Engage.

Is air-assault against formations screened by scouts still being played as stated here?

No, vs. Air-Assault this is senseless. But vs. teleporting things this still this work.

To get this theme alive: Have you guys ever taken other specialist tanks beside the vanquisher? I've fielded my Executioners and Destroyers only one time at a 10k game.

I really like the idea of 3-Squadron Destroyers like the EUK Uliani list.
