Hi, I'm thinking about starting my third army. I have SM (Iron Hands) and Eldar (Iyanden) But I have not quite made up my mind on what army it will be.
I love the IG sentinel model (and have some laying around) so my first thought was to use some of the IG-lists.

So my question is which of the IG lists should I choose? I would like someone with a lot of sentinels and with a different playstyle from my current armies... suggestions? :sos

I have SM and IG. The sentinels are good for running interference but ultimately they are made of cheese....

They seem to be an integral part to the Elysian playstyle and lacking any heavy equipment and most units being teleport capable really do play pretty different to most lists. I'm now expanding my Steel Legion collection to support Elysian deployment now and I've got a buttload of sentinels in it :D

A Titan Legion will often have a few Sentinel formations in to up the activation numbers.

Elysians use them a lot too I think (I've not played them).

They do indeed.

I use Sentinels in many of my IG Bns ... I use them to screen/cover a flank. And for flanking action against light targets ...

Thanks for the advise so far :)
So any IG and the Elysians in particular, will be looking through that list one more time.

How about the longing for a different playstyle? I would like an army that works a little different than my current SM and Eldar. The Elysians playstyle seems similar to the Eldar but I could be wrong?

Elysians seem to be heavy on the shooting in my experience; they kick out a hell of a lot more that way than when assualting. Although assualt remains an integral part of play nevertheless.

You might also consider the Cadian list which can take formations of 6 armoured 'cadian' sentinels.

Elysians are awesome (at dying). It is one of my favorite lists to play. A bunch of no armor infantry supported by LV Sentinels and skimmers. lMacro-weapon Drop Sentinels run independently or in larger formations. Support Sentinels roam independently.

You need a LOT of Sentinels and Valkyries to make the list work. I'd say a minimum of 12 Sentinels and preferably more. A minimum of 8 Valkyries and better to have double that.

btw, what list do you guys use? (for Elysians)

I found this: viewtopic.php?f=74&t=19160
and the one in the 2012 compendium. They both have the same version 3.1.5 and champion but they are very different...???

Is there someplace where you can find all the "official" lists that were incorporated in the compendium?

edit: like this but for IG http://taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/view ... 73&t=23690

Yes, like Paratroops, you'll probably need support especially from Gunships/CAS. And Sentinels are the AT Guns (but much more mobile) like most Paras had in WWII (UK & US used the 57mm successfully). And my Elys have mortars, man packed AT wpns(the US used the Bazooka & the UK the PIAT) and snipers like real Paras ... Remember the Paras, should be used, at least initially , to sieze an OBJ, behind enemy lines, like bridges or airfields, etc.. They are light infantry and like all infantry once on the ground good use of terrain is important. Not as easy to use as an armored formation with FA support. So Elys(Paras) takes a little more tactical "savvy" to be useful . And their strengths/capabilities should be used for certian tactical situations ... Of course I'm biased being a former member of the 101 ... ;D

It's harder to abuse the approved lists so I'll stick with the dev-expperimental ones ;)
Perhaps if you would bring some gifts/snacks the next time we meet I'll let you win...

I'll work on an updated list for the Elysians... They haven't been poked at in a while and the formatting kinda sucks on the most updated one.

Hang tight!
