Hi All,

Trying to come up with a list for BL, this is my first stab. Just realised I haven't included a Warlord as I was pasting, doh! Just after some C&C from exerpeinced players. I'm using the Beta 3.1 NetEA list?

I have or have on order most of the units in the list, bar the Banelord, Termies and fighters. My original plan was to have a garrison retinue with defilers (maybe havocs too). but then I saw the defiler pack in the 3.1 list!

Retinues
315 – Retinue + 4 Rhinos
315 – Retinue + 4 Rhinos
315 – Retinue + 4 Rhinos

Elite
405 – Termintors (x6 Terminators)

Support
400 - Armoured Company (x8 Predators)
275 – Defiler Assault Pack

Navy/Titan
800- Banelord
175 – Hell Talons

Total – 3000
Activations = 8

My own criticisms start with a) lack of warlord, b) lack of daemons and packs to assist with assaults.

It is an interesting force however I think you are very light on activations for a ground-pounder force.

I am interested to see how you go with the predators.

I am not sure if the list you are using is correct - the Helltalons are actuially 250 points and have 2BP weapons each. If yours says 1BP then it is outdated. You will be better off with Hellblades @ 200 points and maybe drop the rhinos on a retinue so it can garrison. You may still be some points out so I would recommend swapping a Retinue for a Chosen Retinue and then use the extra points to beef other areas up. In fact, if you cut out some more preds and maybe a terminator, you could find another activation in there. Just some things to think about.

No doubt you are about to start a long journey on list tuning till you find the playstyle that works for you

Looks like a difficult list to play. I often find that the Banelord is not worth the points cost as it is not really fast enough to get into assaults effectively.
I'd drop the Banelord and take:
2xChosen with 4 rhinos - 290 not just to boost your activations but also for a scout screen,
2xHavocs (+ 4 rhinos) - 340 for your assaults and general firepower as they double the number of bullets a unit spits out,
Add a Daemon prince to your terminators - 50 as they are great in assaults
Drop 2 predators and add 2 land raiders and add 2 vindicators to the armoured company - (-100/+220) 120 for the RA up front, 4xAV4+ and the 2xAP3+ which also makes the unit harder to break
= 800 points and I think you will have an easier time adapting to the changing battlefield

The Banelord can effectively limit 3 of the 5 game objectives so it is not such a bad buy for the fear it causes or the attention it attains.

To force an opponent to only win on 2 objectives can be well worth the 800 points.

That's very true. I've just never really had much luck with them and they are awfully expensive for a 3k game where the points can be used to up your activations and to boost formations into the "this could be a real threat" category.
Either way the game has a very different character when there is a big nasty on the table, which can be fun.

Not that I don't agree, but what 3 goals? It can deny Blitz and BTS easily, but what else? Or are you talking about contesting one of the objectives on your opponent's half, so preventing BTS, Hold the Line and Defend to Flag?

3 objectives that can be denied without some effort and judging that the objective markers have been placed 30cm apart are:

The opponent might spread the objectives a bit if he expects the Banelord to be a blitzguard. IMHO you can rely on a big titan to deny 2 goals, but denying 3 requires some cooperation from the opponent so it's nothing to rely on.

Not that denying two out of DTF, T&H and HTL with the rest of the army should be that difficult.

Thanks for comments all, I've knocked together an alternative list, without the Banelord, let me know what you think? I'm loathe to lose the Banelord, as I'd like to have something tough and killy that can take on war engines. It also gives me a bit of artillery. The BL list seems to really lack TK options.

As far as I'm aware, I'm using the latest NETEA list? Hell Talons are 175 for two (2BP), and Hellblades are 200 for three?

Hell Talons are 250 points. They are too cheap at 175 points.
