Ok.  Since we're running 2000 point games at Adepticon this year (or bigger if both players agree) I figured I'd start working on some lists so I know what I need to paint since my IG and my Squats are both in desparate need of painting.

Here is what I was thinking for a potential Guard list.

Tank Company:  650 points
Storm Trooper Platoon + Valkyries:  350 points
Vulture Platoon:  300 points
Foot Infantry Company + Fire Support Platoon:  350 points
Artillery Battery:  250 points
Sentinel Squadron:  100 points

I'm not sure what I'm going to use for the Artillery battery.  I have all 3 types available.  I'm leaning more towards Manticores though.

Opinions on the list?

I'd go with bombards, you'll likely need something that negates cover. Other than that I don't know, maybe it feels a bit squishy. Perhaps swap the vultures for another foot infantry?

I'd say go for the Manticores. They have the range to take the entire board w/ 6BP Disrupt. Your Russes have the AT for a 2k list, I'd also drop the Vultures. Granted you know that I'd take 2 Tank Companies in 2k given half a chance, so...

I'd try to get another Sentinal Squadron in there, too, but don't quite see the points to spare.

You also have no AA.

Try:

Tank Company + Hydra:  700 points
Storm Trooper Platoon + Valkyries:  350 points
Foot Infantry Company: 250
Foot Infantry Company + Fire Support Platoon:  350 points
Artillery Battery (Manticore):  250 points
Sentinel Squadron:  100 points

This still has no SC, but you'd be hard pressed to fit one in at this level, I think.

My 'Muahaha' Army would consist of:
Tank Company + Hydra:  700 points
Tank Company + Hydra:  700 points
Sentinel Squadron:  100 points
Sentinel Squadron:  100 points
Mechanized Infantry Company: 400 points

But then I am a founding member of Tankoholics Anonymous.

These are comments I like.  Unlike on Port Maw where I posted the ringer fleet for Adepticon (8 cruiser chaos with only 1 carrier) which is meant to be fun but not overwhelming and the first comment I get is to put in 2 more carriers.  Ringer fleets are supposed to give decent games, not be overpowering :)

I think the Vultures are probably AT overkill, especially in a 2,000 point game where you're less likely to face titans.

For the artillery, Bombards if you're playing on a smaller table (e.g. 4x4), otherwise Manticores probably edge it.

I'd consider adding in some rough-riders to support your tank company and/or your storm troopers. And I'd also consider a Baneblade or Shadowsword to use as a tough-to-kill objective grabber, especially given it's a 2,000 point game and activations will be at a premium.

By the same reasoning, I think it's fine to ignore air in a 2,000 point game - you should max out on ground formations to take objectives. (Assuming you're playing the tourney scenario of course!)
