I find that every time I play my orks, I end up with almost identical armies. Much of it is because I only got around 3500 points plus a great gargant of course, but for an army with such a flexible structure I find I often end up with the same sets of minimum formations (+oddboys and maybe an extra nob to round out points).

But orks are flexible. There are probably several formations out there I've never though of. What are your favorite ork formations?

I have a good deal of fun with 16 Warbikes. Often I don't even care if some of them have to take dangerous terrain tests to engage a formation in cover.

Mechanized Warbands (4 Battlewagonz and 1 Flakwagon) are pretty hard hitting too. Lots of dice on the double and alright in FF too.

I am building an ork army (first non-imperial army project launched since 1990) and is considering to use mechanised warbands including a gunwagon upgraded with an oddboy.

I guess that the formation will be doubling alot and that the extra oddboy shot might be worth it. However, it would be nice to know the view of the experienced ork players on this.

The warbikes and skorchas will have to wait until I can allocate more funds to the orks, but I'm going for some EW Hoplons ASAP to give me a couple of mechanized warbands.

What are thoughts on upgrading the wagonband? Jacob's idea sounds good, and I've also thought about adding two big guns and a fifth battlewagon, to get two three extra FF5+ attacks and some shots at 45cm. Could also add an oddboy to one of them, but at that point the single Mekboy Gunwagon (speedsta!) might be the better idea.

Or does all this push the cost too high?

As I paint up my Evil Sunz I am going though same thought processes, so will be interesting to see what experienced Ork Warbosses do. I am going for Big Warband so that means 8 Battlewagons. I was also leaning towards adding pair Mekboy Oddboyz (Zzap guns) and pair of Flakwagons.

It looks as if the Flakwagons nicely complement the Battlewagons and Ork Boyz range. I did wonder whether I should also add 2 Gunwagons to reduce the effects of suppression on Oddboyz, but was concerned that formation was getting too big.

Thanks

James
