I'm playing a game of Epic online against WarPeace in the US, trying out the new Tabletop system in development by Zombocm here which allows games to be played online. It's a fair bit slower than a normal game and a bit fiddly at times, but it's great to be able to play a game against someone across the other side of the world :)

So far we've played up to the end of turn 1. The circles of stone mark the edges of hills, as the terrain in this initial version is a bit limited and missing hills at the moment. There's only Marines and Guard in the initial game but it's possible to add other armies in (and share the added army with others for anyone to use) and I plan to add some myself.

Starting positions:

Land Raiders advanced forward and shot the garrisoned Storm Troopers in the woods, the Heavy Bolters were out range but two Valkyries were killed.

IG Infantry Company advance into the ruins and blast two Land Speeders out of the air.

The Space Marine's Thunderbolt air support fail to activate.

Leman Russ company advance onto the hill and rain down shells onto the Scouts. They must be well camouflaged and/or lucky as only one Scout dies.

Warhound singles and kills one Storm Trooper in the woods (plasma both missed).

Storm Troopers marshal, one firing it's rocket pods and killing a Scout. They then remove all but one blast marker.

The shot-up Land Speeders double behind the Infantry Company on the right and lay a blast marker on them.

IG Thunderbolts move on, mistakenly believing the Hunter's to be range 60cm. I said Sam could rethink placing them, but he stayed the course. One Thunderbolt is hit, doesn't jink and blows up. The other places a blast marker on the Bikes.

Predator Destructors double and shoot the Storm Troopers, killing one more.

Infantry Comany guarding the blitz go onto overwatch.

The Land Speeders seeing that the Predators are in a dangerous position move forward to screen them from the Rough Riders. A Multi-Melta slags one base of them.

After realising the Land Speeders can fly up and avoid their attacks the Rough Riders engage the Scout formation.

Despite their blast markers the two overwatching twin heavy bolter Razorbacks that can attack both hit and kill two, breaking the Rough Riders.

Warhound doubles and blasts away at the Infantry Company in the ruins, with crossfire to the Land Speeders, 4 die adding 6 more blast markers.

Regimental HQ double and attack the Land Speeders, killing two.

Predator Anhilators and the Hunter bravely drive forward into range of the Leman Russ company and kill one.

Thunderbolts fly on and kill and Land Speeder on the right, breaking them.

The Assault Marines were out of range to shoot their Vindicator at the Infantry Company in the ruins so they triple over to the area for next turn.

The Mechanised Company double forward...

…and destroy a Predator Destructor.

Image

The Bikes double forward into a position to attack the Tank Company next turn, putting a blast marker on the broken Rough Riders and so killing one more.

Thunderbolt Fighters on the right fly off, taking a blast marker but no damage from the Hunter.

We haven't rolled for end of turn rallies yet. That's it for the moment but we should be playing more tonight hopefully and I'll update the thread as we go.

You should all give Tabletop a try folks! Start playing Epic with people across the world. Particularly all you Army Champions, as you can get to playtest your lists with groups across the world and help get them better balanced and approved.

Interesting to see it in action, thanks for the report. Now you've got a game in, how does tabletop at this early stage compare with vassal epic mod in terms of speed and usability?

I'm not sure. I can't really remember much about Vassal now, I tried it once with The Real Chris but didn't complete the game for reasons I forget.

I'm currently playing around, trying to add Eldar units. Working out how to access the Vassal image files has made it a lot quicker, though I don't know what to do about the Epic units there isn't sprites for.
