Okay, got in a third game vs Eldar Titan Clan...  this time I brought a Marine army I'd been thinking about trying... one with lots Lazerbacks.

Again, I must apologize for my luck... Evil Friend Dave thinks someone put the jinx on me while I was down in Australia, cuz my wargaming dice have been *brutally* bad since then...

Eldar choose Turn 1 for the Wraithship and decide it will use an Orbital Bombardment.

Space Marines garrison all Land Speeder and Scouts Detachments.

Eldar Titan Clan garrisons all Ranger Troupes, with A and B on overwatch.

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Eldar Titan Legion

The Wraithship drifts overhead and drops its Orbital Bombardment just in from of the Space Marine Blitz, engulfing Speeder Detachment 3 in fire and taking the wind out of three Tornados… breaking the formation.

Ranger Troupe A sustains fire on Scouts 1, placing a single Blast Marker.

Reacting swiftly, Scouts 2 sustains fire on Troupe B, taking out two Rangers and breaking the survivors.

In the distance, the Guardians go on overwatch, protecting the Eldar Blitz.

Staying well clear of Eldar anti-air, Thunderbolt Squadron 1 ground attacks the Guardians, hunkered down in cover, and manages to take out two Guardians and a Heavy Weapon Platform!

Striding forward with grim purpose, the Phantom HQ doubles into the centre of the battlefield and fires at the Devastators… taking out two Devastators and a Razorback.

The Devastators respond by doubling to flank the Phantom HQ and they are able to knock 2DC off the great beast and are in a perfect position to support…

…Scouts 3, in their in experience, *fail* to engage the vulnerable Phantom HQ and merely shoot to but another Blast marker on it… *SIGH*

Phantom 1 advances and fires on the Devastators, trashing the Hunter.

Speeders 1 double to fire on the Phantom HQ… for a Blast marker.

The Revenants double forward to help their commander and fire on the Devastators and Speeders 1… a Razorback is torn apart, breaking the Devs and the Land Speeders pick up an impressive 4 Blast markers.

Scouts 1 race forward to engage Ranger Troupe A… they take out two Rangers with the two hits they get and lose a Scout in return… and then the Rangers win by “2â€Â

Turn 2

The Terminators appear in perfect formation behind the battered Phantom HQ.



Strategy Roll: SPACE MARINES!!!

The Terminators resolutely stride into close combat with the Phantom HQ as they score two hits, one of which does manage to do 1DC of damage and a critical hit, but it’s not enough.  The Eldar Titan crushes all four Terminators into armoured paste before repositioning slightly.  *SIGH*



Realizing things have indeed gone pear-shaped, the Tactical Detachment Commander doubles his men in a strategic withdrawal and takes a long-ranged Hunter shot to put a Blast marker on the Revenants.

Phantom 1 advances on Speeders 2 and shoots *four* Speeders out of the air, forcing the single survivor packing.

The Revenants then clip Speeders 1 and Scouts 3, with the support of Phantom 1.  



Only two Speeders go down… and then the Marines “snake-eyesâ€Â

Turn 3

Strategy Roll: Eldar Titan Clan

Still standing tall, the Phantom HQ doubles to fire on the Tactical Detachment and takes out the Hunter.

F-Troupe then wavers, but eventually succeeds in engaging Scouts 1, wiping them out!



Feeling vulnerable, the remains of the Devastator Detachment sustain fire on the Revenants… and score no hits.

Phantom 1 advances on the Tacticals and takes out a Tactical unit.

Feeling hard pressed the Tacticals advance to a better position and fire on the naked Phantom HQ… and score no hits.

The Revenants attempt to double after the Tacticals but fail, so they nimbly spin in place and fire on the Devastators, taking out a Devastator and a Razorback, breaking the survivors.

Thunderbolts 1 lose a plane on the way in to put a Blast marker on the Phantom HQ.

The Guardians marshal, still guarding the Eldar Blitz.

Thunderbolts 2 redeem themselves by *finally* taking down the Phantom HQ and there is a ragged cheer from the Marines.

Ranger A advances to reposition itself to hold both Marine Objectives.

Speeders 3, aka “The Lucky Sevensâ€Â

Turn 4

The Avatar appears near the Guardians. (Which we later realized was a mistake, as the Eldar Titan Clan doesn’t *get* the Avatar!)



Strategy Roll: Space Marines

Scouts 1 prepare to double back into action… and fail… moving to guard the Blitz.  *FUG!!!*

Phantom 1 advances and fires on the Tacticals taking out 2 Tacticals and 1 Razorback.

F-Troupe then fails to engage them and shoots to put on a Blast marker.

Speeders 3 sustain fire on Troupe-A… and score no hits.

B-Troupe engages the Tactical Detachment… and the Marines score a *single* hit before they are wiped out… the Eldar reposition to claim the nearby Objective.



T-Bolts 2 ground attack Troupe-A, kill a Ranger, and break them, leaving Speeders 3 in control of Marine Objective 1.

The non-existent Avatar advances to fire on the Devastators for a single Blast marker.

The last plane of T-bolts 1 is shot down as it approaches the Revenants.

The Revenants double to grab Eldar Objective 2 and eliminate the Land Speeder guarding it.

The Librarian of the Devastators sees a single ray of hope and he makes a mad march across enemy lines and throws himself from his Razorback to narrowly (or maybe not!) grab Marine Objective 2…

nice bit of nifty crossfiring there good to see a titan finally taken down, but t-bolts of all things! Seems like a far more balanced game than the others, though your luck seems to be rising back to the median. Hmm, deathstrikes vs. t-bolts as anti-titan weapons - which would you choose?!

Well, they had a *lot* of help... and, statisically, those Terminators should've floored that Titan... thinking back, maybe I should've just sustained on the Titan instead of assaulting it.

Heck, it probably would've been killed if the Scouts hadn't failed to engage with the Devs' support... but them's the dice!

And it does seem that crossfire is the key to dealing with Eldar Titans.


Well, my opponent was still wincing in sympathy for some of my rolls.

And, vs Eldar Titans... that's tough, the 3+ save really reduces the power of the Deathstrikes... but D6 damage if a missile does get through is very nice.  *laugh*

Ditto for us. Basically, no part of the unit(s) may extend beyond the max. Excellent report and I really weeped for the termies. They should have left a slag heap of wraithbone where they fought.
