Well, it's nice to know that although I was 5pts over the game size limit, Ryan had another 195pts on top of that.

Ho ho ho.

I won't bother writing out the batrep in depth due to the unintentional points difference making the batrep unbalanced.

On turn 1 my Warhound was shot at by broadsides then killed by the AX-1-0's.

I used my retinue (BTS) as bait, putting it in the open with Daemons at the front and letting Ryan burn off 4-5 activations trying to kill it (he broke it, but didn't kill it).

Before turn 2, I teleported in my Terminators aggressively without taking any BMs.

TURN 2 STRATEGY ROLL : RED CORSAIRS!

Turn 2 begins with Marine Retinue (which rallied at the end of turn 1) pulling Defiler formation nearby into an Engagement against Fire Warriors 2 using the Commander ability.

After a first round draw (who says the Tau can't fight engagements!), a second turn sees the 325pt Fire Warrior formation wiped out by the 755pts of attacking CSM.

However two Defilers were killed, and the remaining two will never rally.

Retaining, I declair Fire Warriors 1 intermingled with Crisis and Broadside formations, and after summoning a greater daemon I Engage the whole lot with my Terminator formation.

It again takes two round of combat before I win the Engagement (a tie, followed by winning by 1), despite laying unholy ammouts of MW attacks the Broadside suits take most of them on the chin passing many armour saves.

All three Tau formations break, but so does the Terminator formation as three units are dead and the greater daemon has taken 2DC of damage. Greater Daemon disappears back into the warp and the lone remaining unit (Daemon Prince) scuttles off to hide near the Tau Blitz.

Tau try and put their Barracudas on CAP, and fail by rolling two 1's.

Chaos Thunderhawk flies in through the Tau flak (taking a DC of damage) and beats up on the broken Crisis formation, winning the engagement by 2 and wiping out the crisis formation (BTS to Red Corsairs).

I'll write some more about this unbalanced battle, and relate in full the crushing defeat of one of the armies tomorrow.

=====

Also, Defiler formations are still too expensive and still need a points drop.

Laters!

I really don't know how that points blemish happened. I checked it 3 times. Do you remember if I added the skyrays? Thats probably the problem. I blame jet lag I was half asleep for most of the game.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to.

You probably added it up correctly, then put the Skyrays into the formations out of habit afterwards.

I too added up my army on the spot and was also in error (admittedly only 5pts, not 200!).

You can't blame Jetlag too much, you've been back from your expedition for 5/6 days...  :)

This was a fine effort. Do you normally buy the Greater daemon with the chance that you may not ever get the 6 summoning points on 2 dice?

Also, are you able to give us some detail on what part the Khorne berserkers played as a foot unit (or were they in the Thunderhawk) ?

Thanks   :agree:

I thought this was an interesting play as well. Given the possibility of being outnumbered against various opponents, the Risk/Reward for taking a GD seems a tougher choice to me. I'd much rather see how many LD I can get on the board for my daemon bomb.

That being said, the GD could definitely make a big impression if/when he shows up if you can get him where you want him.

Looking forward to the rest of the report.

Cheers,

Interesting you put your SC in the BTS formation, Ryan. You don't find it too much of a target for your opponents?

On the 200 over, I guess you could have done without the Tigershark and added a Bonded team to a FW formation for the 25 left over.

Will you guys replay this one at all? I'd really like to see how it faired with correct points.

Ben, did you manage to shoot the AX1-0 down in the game?

I took the Chaos Champion character for my Terminator formation... amongst other things he grants an extra 2d6 of summoning power, making summoning a generic greater Daemon very reliable.

They were in a Thunderhawk, murderized the crisis formation, got shot up by some Fusion Hammerheads, broke, and never rallied.

I'm going to try running the THawk Berzerkers with a Chaos Dreadnought attached, right now they don't really have the punch or the staying power of two loyalist assault formations with Chaplains. Nor the speed after the first strike come to think of it... they're a one shot formation.

Shot one down on turn one with my Hellblades as they buzzed my Warhound. Lost one Hellblade to flak as I flew through the area of effect of two Skyrays.
