Just got finished a massive 5000 point game against Drek... we started at 8:00pm... and finished at 1:00am... *YAWN*

It was a tense and exciting game... but I'm too tired to post the report right now.  I'll put up the armies and then head to bed.  I upgraded my "Tooth and Claw" army to 5000 points... yes, there's war engines in it at that level... but still *LOTS* of Brood creatures!

Yes, I had my camera, so there will be pictures! :agree:

Battlefield:

4x6

Alaitoc chose long table edge.


Deployment:

Alaitoc kept both Pathfinder Troupes in reserve and held the Shining Spears and Windriders 2 in the Webway.

Tyranids kept both Lictor swarms in reserve.

Alaitoc garrisoned both Ranger Warhosts on overwatch.

Tyranids garrisoned Attack Swarm 1 and the Infestation Swarm, both on overwatch.

Oooh! ONe thing i want to try with a 5k nid army is having 3 synapse nodes al with two dactylis each to sit on each of the objectives in my table half; anyone else tried that?

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Alaitoc wins… and hands initiative to the Tyranids.

Chittering with glee, the Synapse Node sustains fire on Ranger Warhost 2, melting 2 Rangers and 1 Falcon and putting down enough Blast markers to break the Eldar scouts.

With grim determination, the Warlock Titan doubles forward to fire on Attack Swarm 1… placing a single Blast marker.

The Revenants show their big brother how it’s done by also doubling forward and targeting Attack 1, and they manage to take out 1 Ravener and 3 Carnifex. (I still hate how quickly Carnifex melt away with 3+ armour.)

Swords of Vaul 2 then try to finish them, but have some trouble and only move forward to support the rapidly moving Titans.

Hierophant 1 doubles forward to put a Blast marker on the Warlock Titan.

Windriders 1 double, moving, shooting, and moving away, putting another Blast marker on Attack Swarm 1.  Their end move forms a screen for the massed Eldar Titans.

Harridan 2 advances, popping up and putting a Blast marker on the Warlock.

Swords of Vaul 1 pop-up and double to put a Blast marker on Harridan 2.

Hierophant 2 doubles forward and manages to actually do 1DC damage to the Warlock Titan!

For the first time in their existence, the Night Spinners pop-up and double to fire on Hierophant 2… and they do 1DC of damage!

Harridan 1 then pops-up and advances on Swords of Vaul 1, taking out 1 Falcon and 1 Firestorm.

Ranger Warhost 1 drops overwatch, mounts up, and doubles to fire their Falcons at Hierophant 2… doing 2DC damage and nearly breaking the beast!

Attack Swarm 1 doubles to reposition and fire on Windrider Troupe 1 for one Blast marker.



Windrider Troupe 2 races out of the Wraithgate to fire on Hierophant 2… breaking it!  The Tyranid monster holds its ground.

Assault Swarm 3 attempts to march… but fails and just moves forward a bit.

The Guardians march, spreading out to secure the Wraithgate.

Assault Swarm 1 marches towards Tyranid Objective 2.

Assault Swarm 4 doubles to put a Blast marker on Windriders 2.

Attack Swarm 2 doubles to knock down one of Windrider 1’s Jetbikes, but the Eldar don’t budge.

Assault Swarm 1 doubles on Windriders 2… and puts down another Blast marker.

Things are looking ugly mid-battlefield…


End of Turn

Only broken Ranger Warhost 2 fails to rally.

Spawning is practically non-existent; the Infestation Swarm gets a Carnifex and another Swarm gets a single Ravener.

Turn 2

Both Pathfinder Troupes show up safely deep in Tyranid territory.



Strategy Roll: Alaitoc

Pathfinder Troupe 2 stands firm and sustains fire into Assault Swarm and easily snipes out all 3 Tyranid Warriors.  *OUCH*

The Revenants then prepare to sustain fire… but the sight of so many Tyranids has shaken them and the Autarch is no where to be found to reassure them, so they just fire normally into Attack Swarm 1 killing 4 Biovores and 1 Carnifex.

With an alien hunger lighting their eyes, the Hive Tyrants of Attack Swarm 2 draw in Attack Swarm 1 and Hierophant 2 in a combined assault against the intermingled Eldar Titans.  Each Revenant takes 1DC damage and the Warlock suffers 2DC and a critical hit… but they dish out a *WORLD* of hurt on the Tyranids.  



The Hierophant is cut down, along with 2 Haruspex, 2 Carnifex, 1 Ravener, and 1 Hive Tyrant… and the resolution means that only a Hive Tyrant and single Carnifex survive as Attack 1 and the two Tyrants survive as Attack 2… a bit of debacle for the Bugs… but at least a Holofield has been removed!



Swords of Vaul 2 try to double… but fail, shooting out a single Ravener from Assault Swarm 1.

Assault Swarm 4 then moves in to finish the kill, engaging the Warlock Titan.  Three Raveners are crushed, but the swarm brings down the might war engine in a splintering of wraithbone.



Asault Swarm 1 then follows by engaging the intermingled Windriders and Ranger Warhost  1.  Two Raveners and a Hormagaunt go down, but the Bike troupe is wiped out and the Rangers lose a Ranger and a Falcon and back off.



Swords of Vaul 1 advances on the Infestation Swarm and carves up 2 Dactylis.

Pathfinder Troupe 1 then engages the Infestation Swarm in a firefight… lose a Pathfinder, and then lose by “1â€Â

[Turn 2 continued]

The Night Spinners prepare to sustain fire on a clustered swarm… but hold and regroup instead.

Harridan 2 leaps after the Revenants, suffering 2DC damage as it rips one Scout Titan apart, forcing the other to fall back.



The Guardians double forward, repositioning and firing on Assault Swarm 2, dropping a Ravener.

The Autarch finally finishes his tea and makes an appearance by moving out of the ‘Gate to engage Assault Swarm 2.  The take no damage dropping 1 Hormagaunt and 1 Ravener, and resolution takes out two more Raveners, a Gargoyle, and a Termagant.  (Dang that double inspiring!)  



The broken swarm moves back to near the synapse-less Assault Swarm 3.



Speaking of… headless Assault Swarm 3 engage the nasty, nasty Pathfinder Troupe 2… and wipe them out!  Three Raveners and 2 Hormagaunts are too far from any Synapse and are removed at this time. (Because it was obvious they weren’t gonna get picked up.)



The weakened Infestation Swarm sustains fire on the approaching Aspect Troupe and… places a Blast marker.

Harridan 1 engages Swords of Vaul 2… and suffers 1DC damage… and loses by “1â€Â
