So second vassal game vs Clauswitz.
Result turn 3 - AMTL 0 - NetEA Steel Legion 3 (They shall not pass, defend the flag, take and hold)

AMTL
650 Reaver, TLD, TLD, CCW, CML
600 Reaver, Inf, Inf, LasBurna, CML
575 Reaver, VMB, VMB, LasBurna
500 Warhound pack, VMB, PBG, VMB, PBG
300 Warhound, PBG, PBG
275 Warhound, VMB, Inf
100 Sentinels

Steel Legion NetEA
700 Russ + Hydra
550 HQ + Hydra
500 SHT 2 Shadowswords, 1 Baneblade
350 Infantry + Fire Support
250 Warhound
250 Warhound
200 Shadowsword
200 Shadowsword

Deployment as shown. Note me being one Reaver span too far in which was then corrected somewhat sheepishly by me, luckily it made no difference to anything.

Basic Guard plan, stand and shoot.
No real AMTL plan other than rely on Clauswitz's luck (which was almost avrage at times, though I think only once did the shadowswords get a couple of hits that didn't do just one point of damage). In retrospect I've thought of a far better plan :)

The best thing to come out of the game I think was a slight list tweak devised by Doug which I think puts the AMTL list at 98% completion and I must confess I was stumped trying to think of any obvious combinations to break it. I won't steal his thunder though by posting it!

Game developed as shown (yes, the lazy way to write reports! - Any specif questions on moves just ask :) ).

The Warhound Pack charged, 4 SHTs wiped them out.

Turn 2
Note in this game unlike the previous ork one where the Ork gods were completely on my side the Titans never got to win initiative. So no redemption or reward for the crazy light brigade charge!

My interest is piqued.

Turn 3
By this point my home life was, entertainingly I hope for Clauswitz, cutting in somewhat, including my daughter passing comments on the game (she wasn't impressed and quite possibly unaware she was speaking next to the microphone) and would you like a picture of the eagle that caused such a stir when it sat on the window ledge?
In fact I'll transfer it here at some point and a budding ornithologist can tell me its model.
Game wise I was at this point comprehensively out fought, my incredulous laughter at Dougs dice rolls last game turned to mournful silence as one Titan after another was brought crashing down or forced to hide. This demoralisation was projected clearly into the computer in the end phase when all three Titans in Clauswitzs half failed to rally.

3-0 to the Guard!

It retrospect I should have set up the objectives somewhat differently, conducive to me simple hiding turn 1 and letting the guard waste it. Turn 2 maybe engage as the Guard sort their advance out, certainly hit anything from places the SHT's can't see me. Turn 3 use roads to move up to objectives, thoroughly deny blitz, get something into Guard half, turn 4  fight it out. The range will have been closer overall and though I'd still be at some point taking the SHT TK fire it would have been less overall. Not nessecerily a win, but not as one sided hopefully.

Thanks for the great Batrep TRC.

The IG seems to have been a little WE-heavy (with 4 Shadowsword), but maybe that's just me tending to take no more than 2 SHT's to my games.

Yes its a different army combo, though I think its would be somewhat weak vs marines or Orks. I prefer under the revised stats a Baneblade company over the Leman Russ's - not as fragile - for a heavy advance, then deathstrikes, vultures and a shadowsword for tk duties. And of course no dirty Warhounds with my guard, they are useless, honest :)

It's not Epic without at least one Titan on the field!

Therefore, both armies pass my 'Does this look like an Epic army?' test. :))

Actually Clauswitz's army looks like something I've seen fielded in 40k apocalypse!

Surely that would have less infantry and chimeras, and more Baneblades. :))

It's not too dissimilar to my standard face-all comers IG army.

I always take Leman Russ Company and Regimental HQ. I usually take company of 3 Shadowswords. Maybe a Warhound Titan. Remaining points spent on Artillery batteries (typically Manticores) and Sentinel Squadrons.

I don't like taking companies of Shadowswords and Baneblades. I have found that when I have done so invariably I curse the loss of extra TK shot as 1 or both of the 2 Shadowswords miss. I tend to follow the standard IG motto as expressed by Depeche Mode of "everything counts in large ammounts".....

In this case the baneblade was more often than not making up for my cross-eyed, myopic shadowsword gunners!

Between the volcano cannons and plasma blast guns I had a lot of guns that hit on 2's, and I still missed more often than TRC zapp guns racing around the table.

The list is almost exactly the same as the one I played in my first game against Mephiston (and its also the actual IG army I own).  I do freely admit that I knew it would be decent against TL, but I didn't specifically tool it for that (or the useless infantry company would have been deathstrikes  :vD )

As for the 1 Baneblade, 2 Shadowsword company I like it for the extra few shots for shield dropping (for the pesky warhounds that rush) and for the extra FF punch when supporting the occassional assault (or in assault defence).  I still like it dispite one of my rounds of shooting having both volcano cannons roll 1's to finish off a warhound.  But each to his own its just a preference.
