It was a very rainy weekend here in Southern Ontario, so I got in a couple of games of EPIC while avoiding getting drenched.

Got in one game with Tyranids, and my opponent had brought a rather specialized Steel Legion list.

My wife was out of town, visiting La Belle Province, and had taken my camera with her, so, no photos.

Turn 1

One Lictor Swarm shows up... and gets a single Blast marker.

Strategy Roll: TYRANIDS!  (Oh how I wished I’d deployed both sets of Lictors!)

The Lictor Swarm races forward to engage… the ever so slightly intermingled Manticore Batteries 4 and 5 (There was a building edge between both Batteries which, I believe, fooled my opponent into thinking they weren’t intermingled.)  Both Batteries are wiped out without any Tyranid casualties.

Harridan 1 attempts to double, but fails and only advances.

Manticore 3 sustains fire on Assault Swarm 4 killing 2 Termagants, 1 Ravener, and a very unlucky Tyranid Warrior.

The Genestealer Swarm marches, spreading out to harass Manticore Battery 1.

The Super-Heavy Company advances… and fires their massive guns on the Genestealers, only killing two.

Manticore Battery 2 then *ENGAGES* the single nearby Genestealer, killing it and winds up forcing the entire swarm to scatter.  D’OH!

Harridan 2 then doubles forward, popping up to put a Blast marker on the Artillery Company.

The Artillery Company now sustains fire on Assault Swarm 3 killing 1 Ravener, 2 Gargoyles, 1 Hormagaunt and 2 Termagants.

Assault Swarm 4 attempts to march… and fails!  They shuffle forward into cover.

Manticore Battery 1 just can’t get it together and can’t manage to sustain fire, so they regroup.

Assault Swarm 1 marches in a wide loop towards the Imperials, attempting to stay out of sight.

The Regimental HQ goes on overwatch, feeling a bit panicked by the advancing hordes.

Assault Swarm 2 marches directly towards the Super-Heavy Company… just outside of overwatch range…


End of Turn

All formations rally.

And *ALL* Brood creatures are respawned!  (Oh, my opponent was *not* pleased by this!)

Turn 2

The second Lictor Swarm shows up, in a position to harass Manticore Batteries 1 and 2... and gets no Blast markers!

Strategy Roll: TYRANIDS, AGAIN!!!  

The Harridan flaps low over some ruins, staying out of overwatch LOS, and engages Manticore Battery 1… the missile tanks are torn apart, but do manage to dish out a singe DC of damage.

Lictor Swarm 2 follows up, also staying hidden, by engaging Manticore Battery 2… and wipes it out.  (This may be the first battle where Lictors actually managed to play a significant role!  Again, my opponent was not pleased.  *laugh*)

The Super-Heavy Company goes on overwatch.

And Assault Swarm 2 barrels directly into them, lashing out with an extended tendril of Gargoyles, Hormagaunts, and Raveners.  The Super-heavies hold their fire, as the Regimental HQ lets loose… taking out 2 Raveners, 3 Hormagaunts, and 2 Gargoyles.  The Shadowswords can’t seem to shake off the two Raveners in range, and the two beasts together only score a single penetrating hit… which, of course, goes *CRITICAL*… and the Imperials wind up losing by “1â€Â

So, yes, a very short fight, but it was fun... at least for me... *laugh*

With his focus on disrupt weapons, my opponent really found the "no Blast markers for Broods" thing a bit excessive, since his expensive arty was greatly reduced in power.

Despite the quick game, I still think the "Horde of Tooth and Claw" is quite a viable army choice and I don't think my swarms are 'excessively Ravener'ed, as there's a decent mix of Broods in there.

At 100 points, I feel the three-Warrior Assault Group as LVs is a comparable choice against a single Hive Tyrant at the same price... though, I know others dispute that.  *laugh*

Hoping to line up a larger battle this week, using a similar concept.
