3k AM 1.07 vs Tyranids 9.1

Here's the batrep I promised from two weekends ago.  DS and I had at it, he used the latest Adeptus Mechanicus list and I used the 9.0 Tyranids with Jaldon's changes. It was a very close game thanks to DS's Warhounds (they made so many saves). I ended up winning in the fourth turn by about 500 points I think.

Here's my list:

6 Assault Swarms
1 Attack Swarm
9 Hormagaunt Clusters
9 Termegant Clusters
3 Dactylis Bio-Artillery Clusters
2 Genestealer (8) and Broodlord

9/3025

DS's list:

Ordinatus Golgotha
1 Manticore battery
1 Cataphract Co.
1 Skitarii Demi-century, with upgrades of a Tech lord and 3 Hellhounds
1 Warhound pack, each armed with a TLD and VMB
1 Warhound armed with 2 TLDs
1 unit of Praetorians

Initiative: DS

Tyranids Start of Game:


AM Start of Game:


Gogotha sustains on the Tyrant taking down two Dactylis.

Assault Swarm 6 attempts to march but fails, they move up.

The Manticores sustain on Genestealers 1 taking down one.

Assault Swarm 5 marches.

The Skitarii double towards Assault Swarm 5 and take down 3 Termagants.

Assault Swarm 4 marches.

The Warhounds advance of Assault Swarm 4 and take down 4 Termagants and 1 Hormagaunt.

Assault Swarm 3 marches.

The Praetorians sustain on Genestealers 1 and take down 3, breaking them.

Assault Swarm 2 attempts to march but fails, they move up.

The Warhound sustains on Assault Swarm 3 taking down 4 Termagants and 1 Hormagaunt,.

Assault Swarm 1 marches.

The Leman Russ advance on Assault Swarm 1 and take down 2 Hormagaunts and 1 Termagant.

Genestealers 2 attempts to march but fails, they move up.

The Tyrant sustains on the Skitarii and takes 2 down.

End Phase:

Assault Swarm 1 rallies with 1 BM and spawns 3 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 2 rallies with 0 BM and spawns 2 Termagants and 2 Hormagaunts.
Assault Swarm 3 rallies with 1 BM and spawns 2 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 4 rallies with 2 BM and spawns 1 Hormagaunt.
Assault Swarm 5 rallies with 0 BM and spawns 1 Hormagaunt.
Assault Swarm 6 rallies with 0 BM and spawns 4 Termagants.
Tyrant rallies with 0 BM and spawns 1 Dactylis and 2 Termagants.

Tyranids Turn 2:


AM Turn 2:


Assault Swarm 4 advances on the Skitarii and places a BM.

Assault Swarm 5 retains with an engage on the Skitarii.



6 Skitarii and 5 Hormagaunts go down, the Tyranids win 7-5.



The Warhounds sustain on Assault Swarm 3 and take down all but 1 Warrior, breaking the Swarm.

Assault Swarm 1 doubles on the Warhounds and take down 1 Void Shield and place a BM.

Genestealers 1 retains with an engage the Warhounds.



The Warhounds take 2 hits and take down 2 Genestealers, the Tyranids loose 3-5 and the Genestealers are wiped out.



Gogotha sustains on Genestealers 2 taking 3 down.

Assault Swarm 6 marches.

The Praetorians sustain on Assault Swarm 1 and take out 8 Termagants.

Genestealers 2 marches.

The Leman Russ attempt to sustain but fail, they fire on Assault Swarm 2 and take down 4 Termagants.

The Tyrant sustains on the Warhounds and takes down another Void Shield and places a BM.

Assault Swarm 2 marshalls to remove their BM and prepare to assault the Leman Russ next turn.

The Warhound advances on Assault Swarm 1 and takes down 1 Hormagaunt.

End Phase:

Assault Swarm 1 rallies with 1 BM and spawns 3 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 2 spawns 3 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 3 fails to rally and spawns 1 Termagant.
Assault Swarm 4 rallies with 1 BM and spawns 2 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 5 spawns 4 Hormagaunt
Assault Swarm 6 spawns 1 Termagant.
Tyrant spawns 1 Dactylis and 3 Termagants.

The Skitarii attempt to rally but fail, on a re-roll they rally with 1 BM.

Assault Swarm 3 attempts to advance but fails, they move up.

The Manticores sustain on Assault Swarm 6 taking down 3 Hormgants and 2 Termagants.

Genestealers 2 engage the Warhounds (which made all 5 saves!), the Genestealers loose 3-4 and fall back.



Assault Swarm 1 retains and engages the Warhounds.



1 Warhound and 4 Hormagaunts go down, the Tyrands win 5-3 and the Warhound falls back.



The Praetorians double and fire on the Genestealers placing a BM.

Assault Swarm 6 doubles on the Skitarii and take down 2 Hellhounds (on 7s!) breaking the formation.

The Warhound doubles and fires on the Tyrant taking down 2 Dactylis.

The Tyrant attempts to sustain but fails, the Termagants are moved up to keep the Warhound from flanking the Dactylis.

The Leman Russ advance and fire on Assault Swarm 2 placing a BM.

Assault Swarm 4 engages the broken Warhound. The Warhound takes 2 DC and 1 Hormagaunt goes down. The Warhound withdraws again.

Assault Swarm 2 attempts to sustain on the Leman Russ but fails, they regroup to 0BM.

End Phase:

Assault Swarm 1 spawns 2 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 2 spawns 2 Hormagaunts.
Assault Swarm 3 rallies with 1 BM and spawns 4 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 4 rallies with 2 BM and spawns 3 Hormagaunts.
Assault Swarm 5 rallies with 0 BM and spawns 4 Termagants.
Assault Swarm 6 rallies with 0 BM and spawns 3 Hormagaunts.
Tyrant rallies with 0 BM and spawns 1 Dactylis.

The Skitarii fail to rally.

Tyranids Turn 4:


AM Turn 4:


The remaining Warhound advances up fails, with a re-roll is fires on Assault Swarm 4 taking down 5 Hormagaunts and 2 Termagants.

The Tyrant sustains on the Leman Russ, taking down 1 and placing 4 BM.

Assault Swarm 2 retains and engages the Leman Russ.



1 Leman RUss and 1 Hormagaunt go down. The Tyranids win 8-4 driving the Russes back.



The Gogotha sustains on Assault Swarm 4 and kills a lot (no notes :p).

Assault Swarm 4 doubles on the Gogotha and places a BM.

The Manticores attempt to double but fail, they regroup to 0BM.

Assault Swarm 6 engages the Gogotha and wins 6-4.



The Gogotha is destroyed trying to escape (it couldn't get more than 15cm away from the Tyranids).



The Praetorians advance on Assault Swarm 2 and take down 2 Hormagaunts.

Assault Swarm 5 attempts to march but fails, it regroups to 0bm.

The Warhound sustains on the Tyrant taking down 5 Termagants.

Assault Swarm 3 attempts to marshalls but fails, it regroups to 0 BM.

End Phase:

I didn't do spawning as we weren't going to a 5th.

Assault Swarm 2 rallies with 0 BM.
Assault Swarm 4 rallies with 2 BM.
Tyrant rallies with 0 BM.
Genestealers 1 rallies with 1 BM.

The Skitarii fail to rally.
The Leman Russ rally with 2 BM.

I have to say I'm liking both the lists.

A cheap SC option for the nids would be nice. +100 points to add to a synapse creature like in Phase III would work. I failed 8 activations of which 4 of them marches (why did the bonus to march go with 9.0 again?).

On the AM list, nothing new, but the robots would still be good at 350 points.

Agreed, Praetorians are too cheap at 250. Dave avoids them like the plague.

Yeah, great report thanks.
It's good to see the Nid's swarming over an enemy that way. Those Warhounds and the Golgotha were hard work though.
Was there any reason why you didn't have a Bio-Titan in the mix Dave? Not worth the points or was it pre-agreed for no Bio-Titans?
Your Assault Swarms really got the job done though, nice. Too many targets for DS's beleaguered AM in the end.
What was the final score? I looked through it again and think I've missed it.

I ended up winning in the fourth turn by about 500 points I think.

Thanks for the great report.

In the pictures for turn 4,during the Assault Swarm 6 engages the Gogotha and wins 6-4.
shouldn't the Warhound at the side of the engagement have recieved a BM for supporting a lost assault and then become broken ?

I haven't used a bio-titan yet mainly because I haven't assembled them. Other than that, I like the wave of bugs feel with this army list. I've used it a few times and the amount of stands I can put on the board is intimidating I'm told.

DS concentrated his fire on my stealers Hena (a lot of people do now :p) and two of my assault swarms got hit pretty heavily. I did only loose 2 Warriors though.

dptdexys, the Warhound didn't actually support (even though it was within range) exactly for that reason. It's also why we went to points, because I would have held the Blitz and another one of DS's objectives if the Warhound supported.

1.12.8 states :-

Finally, any formations belonging to the losing side that
were in a position to have lent support (ie, they were
within 15cms of an enemy unit in the assault) receive one
Blast marker each, even if they did not actually lend
support. These Blast markers represent the detrimental
effect on morale of seeing friends defeated in an assault

So the warhound should have been broken.

Despite my efforts to kill more.  :evil: To his credit, Dave has gotten good at putting plenty of meat shields in front of his Warriors or running and hiding a formation after I chew it up pretty badly, leaving only Warriors. He also has annoying habit of making his saves.  :evil:
