So I managed to get another game in against Emperor's Shadow and this time we upped the points to 4,000 as a change.
I had given ES warning that he was going to face AMTL so I was expecting Shadowswords, Deathstrikes and Vultures and I was not disappointed.
ES' list (from memory).
Reg HQ + Hydra & Griffons Infantry Company + Fire Support & Hydra Shadowsword Company Shadowsword Company Vultures Vultures Rough Riders Deathstrikes Baneblade Hydra Company Thunderbolts Warhound Warhound
13 Activations and 8 Commissars
I was wanting to try out something a little bit different so I went with
Emperors - Warmonger + Deathstrike missiles Reaver - 3x VMB Reaver - 3x VMB Warhound - 2x Vulcan Megabolters Warhound - 2x Vulcan Megabolters Warhound - 2x Vulcan Megabolters Warhound - 2x Plasma Guns Warhound - Turbolaser & Plasma Gun Lysander Fighter Thunderbolts
The though behind this list was to play an emperor titan and then squeeze as many more activations as possible out of the rest of the army whilst maintaining a high number of shots. Also I was following TRC's example of playing a suicide plasmagun Warhound and Chroma's advice to use cover more.
The game was set up with both blitz positioned fairly centrally, the AMTL take and hold objectives were in the centre and to the right along the mid point of the table and just over 30cm apart. Whilst the defend the flag obectives were further along the mid line to the left of centre.
The Infantry company were garrisoned off the blitz and thankfully ES forgot to place them on Overwatch with the new rules. In hindsight I think ES could have garrisoned both formations of Vultures on Overwatch and that would have worried me more.
Only other thing to note on the set up was that all the AMTL titans were set up in ruins or woods.
For this game we didn't take detailed notes or photographs so the report is going to be a bit patchy and I hope ES will be able to fill in some blanks.

The first turn started well for the AMTL as they won the strategy roll and preceeded to advanced the Warmonger through the ruins into range of the first Shadowsword Company. With the Deathstrike Missile weapon load the Warmonger effectively had 3 x TK 2+ (D6). My son was in the room watching the first few moves and wanted to roll to hit, so I let him believing in the luck of youth. 2 1's later and only 1 Shadowsword was destroyed, I forgot, luck of youth only works against parents ? However one of the remaining Sswords was suppressed which was good news for my Warmonger.
Retaining Suicide Warhound bounded forwards towards the Deathstrikes which were centrally placed hiding in ruins. A double 1 later as the hound slipped on some felled tree trunks and it took a point of damage, but was still able to reach the other side of the table and cover of a further set of ruins to fire on the Deathstrikes. This is where the infantry in cover could have opened fire on Overwatch if they had have been set up that way or the Vultures.
Two hits were scored whiched removed that treat to the AMTL.
The Guard were finally able to react to the titans that they were facing, a formation of Vultures advanced forwards and fired on the Warmonger stripping it of all its shields. The second Ssword Company doubled into range & fired on the Warmonger knocking 6 - 7 points of damage off the gigantic war engine. Bit hazzy for the rest of the turn but the second formation of Vultures failed to activate both of ES' warhounds activated and 1 of them did further damage to the Warmonger which finished the turn broken, 2 criticals and only 2 points of damage left. The suicidal warhound was destroyed by shooting from the Baneblade (the lose point from the dangerous terraine made the difference). Rough Riders marched in toward the centre as the AMTL doubled forward firing at the infantry in the ruins and warhounds. The damaged Ssword company was broken by fire from a warhound and a sneeky BM from the Lysander fighter, whilst the Hydra battery was targetted to protect the AMTL fighters.
Big turning point at the end of turn 1 was the Warmonger rallying and repairing both criticals. Game on.

Turn 2 started with the Guard wining initiative. With the Warmonger having previously broken it was safe from the Shadowsword company so the vultures activated and advanced into range to fire again, the roughriders then engaged a Warhound and took it down for the loss of two of their number.
The Warmonger then advanced through the ruins again and fired on the Sswords, 3 TK (D6) hits and luckally for the commissar the first hit was not powerful enough to destroy the first tank so only two were taken out with the third running for cover near the IG Blitz. The AMTL spread out a bit more with a hound being sent to the IG blitz to make it harder for the Sswords to rally and even manage to destroy a Ssword with VMBolters (and two BMs ).
In the end phase 1 of the SSwords rallied, but the second one didn't. The Warmonger had managed to spend a turn with out loosing any further damage, but it did loose it's shield. A Reaver and Warhound failed to rally, but this just left with BMs and a Vulture and Hydra failed as well for the Guard.

Turn 3 is being more and more blurred, but I think that the IG again won strategy and the Ssword was able to avenge its brothers by doubling and taking the last points off the Warmonger. However in the previous turn the AMTL had been softening up the Reg HQ and this continued with a Warhound killing 5 stands of infantry including the Supreme Commander followed up by a sustaining Reaver which reduced the formation to a single chimera. The following activation the Lysander appeared to place the all important BM and claim BTS for the AMTL as well. The roughriders attemed to march to the AMTL's Blitz but were out of range and the second reaver advanced to take the two take and hold objectives whilst firing on the Guards lone surviving warhound to break it.
The game hung on whether the Warhound could rally and contest one of the objectives held by the Reaver and force a 4th turn or not. In this case the answer was not as it failed to rally and gave the AMTL a 2-1 victory (BTS & Take and Hold vs BTS).

A few thoughts from this game.
Playing with the Warmonger was fun if a bit limited. If I hadn't of warned ES that he was going to face titans there would not have been such a target rich environment for the Deathstrike missiles. I am starting to really like Rug's suggestion of 2 of each type of missile as a weapon out load. This would force choices about what you are going to fire at and how whilst making the Warmonger an option for high point tournaments.
The Warmonger in ruins looked silly. ES was good enough not to complain about me claiming cover for a massive War Engine behind a pile of bricks, but we both agreed that it looked and felt silly. The Empire's greatest bastion of war forced to hide all game. However the benefit of cover was needed for all the titans initially. I will throw out a though, add a note that Emperor class titans are too large to benefit from cover and increase the number of shields to 12 as the first turn showed just how easy it can be to reduce an Emperor to shattered hulk.

Cool stuff.
Was the Emperor Titan game-breaking?
Did it still 'feel' like you were playing Epic?

ES will really need to comment on the game-breaking as pect of this as he was facing the list, however it felt good playing with a list of all war engines with a few support aircraft. The Lysander did make a nice addition to the list.
I can see players trying to use an Emperor Titan in 3000pt games, but a sensible opponent would just concentrate on the other forces and win the battle that way.
And yes the game did feel like Epic even down to some of the dice rolls, 5 1's in the first 10 dice rolls for AMTL.
