So with E&C taking charge of the AMTL list and producing his first draft of the list it was only right that Emperor's Shadow and I dug out our war engines and let them loose on the battlefield once more.

I took the following:

Reaver (Plasma Blastgun, Melta Cannon, Lasburner & Carapace Multilasers) - 700pts
Warhound Pack (Mega Bolters) - 500pts
Warhound Pack (Mega Bolters) - 500pts
Warhound (2x Inferno Cannons) - 275pts

Ordinatus Minorus (Gatling Blaster) - 200pts
Ordinatus Minorus (Gatling Blaster) - 200pts
Ordinatus Minorus (Plasma Blastgun) - 175pts
Ordinatus Minorus (Plasma Blastgun) - 175pts
Ordinatus Minorus (Plasma Blastgun) - 175pts

10 Activations, 15 models (11 War Engines) & 3000pts

Rules used were Original Book and Skimmer update.

Set up was long edge vs long edge with AMTL blitz in the centre and their take & hold on the middle of the table. IG blitz was left of centre (from my point of view) behind some ruins with the take & holds fairly centrally located and deeper into my half.

IG garrisoned the infantry company & a formation of vultures off their blitz and spread out their forces along the back line whilst the AMTL tried to use what cover their was to protect its forces but were mainly set up to the right of the blitz with only a warhound pack and the single warhound on the left flank.

AMTL Setup

Guard Setup


Game started with Guard winning the Strategy (first mistake here, we rolled 6's to start off and I called a draw which we re-rolled, of course AMTL have a better Strategy Rating, only picked this up several hours later).

The right Shadowsword activated and advanced onto a small hill firing at the centre Plasma Blastgun Ordinatus Minorus. 1 hit and 3 pts of damage later and the Ord Min broke & doubled forward to a set of ruins to gain some cover.

AMTL responded with the single Warhound and it doubled forward through a wood to stand in front of the infantry company. Unleashing its two infurno guns a 6BP shot hitting 10 Guard stands and (the main target) 2 Vultures. 1 dead Guard unit was the final result with Blast Markers on both formations.

The Guard then responded with the Vultures in the centre which sustained at the single Warhound with a single vulture firing its hellstrikes and stripping the shields off the Warhound.

Pushing forward the left flank Warhound Pack doubled forward to support the single warhound and at long range fired on the lone Shadowsword ?supporting the Infantry Company. 16 (I possibly only shot 8 times as I might have got this wrong as well) shots on a 6 resulted in two hits, one which got through the armour and blew the SSword up with a critical.

Shocked (needing SC re-roll) the Guard look for revenge and advance the central Shadowsword towards the single warhound, hits and does 1 point of damage which is enough to break the hound which runs forward further into the guard half. (This was probably a mistake and I should have hid instead.)

Back in the centre of the table the AMTL double forward an Ordinatus (Gatling Blaster) and fire on the Shadowsword on the hill. (Made a further mistake here as the Ordinatus moved at 15cm per move not 10.) 2 hits were scored which caused 1pt of damage (not critical).

The left Vultures then advanced and the 2 non-suspressed vultures fired on the Warhound Pack hitting 3 times, stripping 2 shields, but the third shot was saved on a  re-roll.

The AMTL then responded with the sentinels advancing towards their own blitz.

Finally the Deathstrikes fired. A single missle arched over towards the let flank Warhound Pack hitting the hound with 2 shields remaining and removed 1 shield. (ES had made a mistake thinking that the damage caused by deathstrikes was D3 otherwise he would have shot both at the Reaver.)

This was the point where we picked up the correct movement for the Ordinatus - The left (in the centre of the table) Plasma Blastgun Ordinatus marched forward as it could not hit anything iff it had doubled. (I was trying to present a target for the Shadowsword Company and preserve my Reaver and Right flank Warhound Pack.)

The left (in the centre of the table) Plasma Blastgun Ordinatus marched forward as it could not hit anything iff it had doubled.


I expected this to happen with the Plasma Ordinatus Minoris... that blastgun looks really lovely, but the vehicle doesn't have the same speed to bring it to bear as the Warhound Titan...


Don't know if this was changed after your game but wouldn't you be over on the limit.

He used v3.01, and this limit didn't appear until v3.03

On with the report:

Following the loss of the Warhound the AMTL continue to reposition its forces and March the final Plasma Ordinatus up the right flank.

This gives a target to the Regimental HQ who double forward and fire on the Ordinatus that has just moved, no hits are scored and 1 BM is placed.

Contiuing the tit for tat activating the final Ordinatus doubles forward and fires it Gatling Blastgun (AT) at the Reg HQ, hits twice and takes out a Hydra (2BM).

Finally the Shadowsword Company activated and advanced forwards to fire on the left most Ordinatus (Plasma). 3 hits & 4 pts of damage destroyed the small war engine.

With the Guard finished the AMTL moved their final titans.

With a view to the begining of the next turn the Reaver Marched forward placing itself in front & in striking distance of the Shadowsword Company and the Regimetal Company.

The final activation was the Warhound Pack on the right advancing forwardand firing on the Reg HQ killing 6 Guard stands.

The broken Ordinatus rallied along with the left Warhound Pack (no other BMs)

All the Guard formations rallied except the infantry company in the ruins.

Thus ended the first turn. End of turn positions

Turn 2 started with the Guard winning the strategy roll and targeting the Reaver.

The remaining Deathstrike fired and striping the reaver of its shields (4 hits). The Shadowsword Company retained and opened fire on the Reaver in front of them. 2 hit and cause 5 pts of damage including a critical. However the Reaver has had enough and, broken, retreats to the ruins in its half and hopes to survive to the end of the turn.

With their main combat element broken and likely to be destroyed the AMTL push forward to try and take out the main treats to it.

The right Plasma Ordinatus doubled forward firing on the Shadowsword on the hill placing a Blast Marker.

Retaining the Gatling Ordinatus fires on the same SSword hitting 3 times but only placing a BM as the thick armour saves the small War Engine. However this is enough to break it and it retreats back off the hill.

The Vultures in the centre of the guard line advanced towards the Warhound pack on the right flank - 6 shots on a 2+, 6 hits, 4 shields downed and 1 point of damage caused.

The other Vultures then activated and sustained fire on the left flank Warhound pack. 4 shots, 4 hits, 2 shields dropped & 2 wounds caused suspressing 1 of the Hounds.

The second Gatling Ordinatus then advanced on the Reg HQ scoring 2 hits and destroying 1 Chimera. Retaining the Right flank Warhound Pack attempted to advance on the Reg HQ and failed. They still fired 4 AT on a 5+ missing all and only placing 1 BM. (I think that 1 Hound was out of range, but it looks like I forgot, again, that I had doubled up the weapons and should have shot 8 times - My BAD.)  :(

The remaining single Shadowsword then advanced getting a line of sight on to the Reaver and blew it up - BTS to Guard

Seeking some form or revenge the rallied Plasma Ordinatus doubled forward and fired on the Shadowsword Company causing 1 hit which went critical blowing up the Commissar's tank.

The Reg HQ then engaged the furthest right Ordinatus cause 5 hits and win the combat by 4pts in the roll off destroying the small war engine.

The Left Warhound Pack then attempted to advance and failed so attempted to remove Blast Markers and only removed 2 (2 remained).

The Infantry Company in the ruins then attempted to go on to Overwatch and failed so decided to remove Blast Markers (5) leaving no BM on the formation.

The Sentinels continued to advance to the AMTL Blitz.

Everybody rallied ready for the final push in turn 3.

Turn 3 started with AMTL finally winning the Strategy Roll. Trying to save the game the right sided Gatling Ordinatus sustained at the lone Shadowsword on the hill. 4 hits caused 2 points of damage which destroyed the war engine. Retaining the last Ordinatus with Plasma Blastgun (not reloaded) attempted to advance, failed and removed the resultant Blast Marker.

The two remaining Shadowswords of the SHT Company advanced sideways onto the hill where the lone Sword had been destroyed. They shoot at the Warhound Pack on the Right Flank - 2 hits, 3pts of damage, 1 shield and 2 wounds killing 1 of the warhounds and breaking the second which runs back to cover in the AMTL set up zone.

In a rush of blood the Vultures on the left flank engage the Warhound Pack on that side, score two hits which remove shields whilst in return the Hounds score three hits and kills two Vultures. The Hounds win the roll-off by 1pts and the Fearless Commissar withdraws towards the TL side of the table.

The final Ordinatus doubles towards the lone Shadowsword in the centre and fires it Gatling Blaster scoring 2 hits, 1 wound and 2 BM. The move also secured an objective in its own half for the AMTL.

Woken up by being shot at, the centre Shadowsword attempts to double, fails, re-roll - fails and breaks due to the Blast Marker that is placed on it.

The Warhound Pack on the left flank double forward firing on the deathstrikes, hitting destroying one and breaking the second. As the deathstrike moved away the Hounds temporary claim the Guard's Blitz.

Ordinatus Minoris come from one of the Black Library books and are supposed to be more common than the three Ordinatus (Ordinatus Majoris) that we know and love from SM/2.

That being said, the availability of Ordinatii has been constrained as of version 3.03, and may be so again if the more common lists start to look too 'wrong'.

I suspect Tim is just checking out the cool new toys. :)
