I don't disagree with that point of view but is it quite that simple? especially since you can target one formation with the barrage and another with the pinpoint, yet the barrage place BMs on the pinpointed formation.
What if you did the pinpoint first? Would you place only an extra 1 BM on it for being caught in the collateral from the barrage, or 2 extra?

Where a barrage template hits two formations, each gets a BM for coming under fire. If the unit firing is a Great Gargant that uses other weapons as well against a single formation (already covered by the barrage), that formation does not gain extra BMs for each extra weapon being fired at it.
So, yes I think it is that simple; basically each formation that is shot at by the spaceship gets a single BM, irrespective of the number of weapons used by the spaceship.
