Skimmers out the front of formations also helps to minimise the power of units like Terminators
with 3+ vs smth like 5+ it helps?(I understand, that without FW-in-DFs losses'd be lighter)
Also, does use of massed piranhas(like 9) as skorpfish replacer have any strategic use?
Well its more like the terminators don't get to use their CC MW attacks - however as they teleport in where would you place the devilfish? Could probably deflect one terminator. The trick is more relevant when shooting up Orks and similar where they have a 15cm CC range and you have a 15cm gun range.
I use massed piranhas, but not like that. With co-ordinated fire 2 formations of 5 piranha and 1 tetra can be used together, hitting the target with 10 seeker missiles if you can get it lit. Supported of course by 3 piranha/3 tetra recon formations to light targets in the first place!
Seekers though are only so good. I played a game against the crimson bondsman list and hit their ragnarock company with a shed load (technical term for about 20) seekers every turn. With movement its rare you get the 4+ to hit and even then tough tanks can survive the missiles. At which point the other beauty of those formations is revealed as its 175 points to always at least lay a blast marker 90cm away! Once broken they are fair easier to deal with!
