nice batrep, lots of fun to read. Those speeders seem to make all the difference - lots of cheap zone of controlling activations right in the opponent's face, which must really scupper any retaliation plans they have and allow the drop podded troops much more freedom of movement. The only game I played against Dave with Raven Guard (it was, right?) he didn't use his planet falling speeders and it was a fairly balanced game (even though I lost :)).

Speaking of which Dave, fancy a game over Vassal at some point?

The list you played was the core Marine list. I did drop a company in though I think. Where can I grab the Vassal Epic files now that they've removed them?

Allowing planetfalling Speeders makes it possible to have nearly your entire army drop. They're also in a position to do some harm where normally you have to spend atleast one turn maneuvering them. Between that and the re-roll on scatter, upping the cost of them or the Strike Cruiser might be in order.

That's along the lines I was thinking.  Maybe +25 for a Speeder formation and/or +25-50 for the cruiser.

From this and the BL batrep, it looks like the Storm Eagles have been decent.  The long assault range or redeployment after the drop has been used to good effect.  The ability to shoot for a formation that wouldn't otherwise has been useful as well.

ah, ok, my bad :) You dropped 1 dev and 1 tac fm plus another one I can't remember, does that make a company?

Ya, two tacticals and a dev is pretty much a battle company. The Bikes and Land Speeders were piloted by the assault marines.  :grin:

just to be dull though, it was more a reference to the secret and subversive cloak and dagger society of vassal gaming (SSCDSVG for short)...

DS has played atleast 4 battles with the new AM list (vs IG, Tau, Tyranid and Raven Guard). In the IG and RG games I know the Ordinatus he took went critical so he hasn't had the best of luck in using it yet.
