By the way, I love the 'Pylon bomb' idea.  It's a pricey gamble but obviously one that paid off two fold.

I'm now worried at seeing a "C'tan Bomb" play... MW hits on everything will be brutal... it's just the loss of the Supreme Commander that may stay it...

I've used the C'tan bomb to great effect several times, in fact, it's pretty much the only reason I ever take one. I remember fondly when the Nightbringer was detonated by the Avatar, killing the Avatar in return and crippling half the castled up Eldar force.

Good times.

Every time I take the nightbringer I teleport as close to the enemy as possible and immediately go for a mega engagement hoping for the critical hit.

The necron criticals should probably get looked at at some point, they're almost always positive for the Necrons.

But I bet you didn't do it more than once in a game.

Well, no :p

But in all seriousness, it is a concern I've had at the back of my mind for a while. I just figured it was a common tactic everyone used?

And *THAT* is why battle reports have value...  :agree:

I've never seen an intentional "C'tan Bomb" used in play... Necron players didn't want to lose their SR3 and re-roll...  I've seen one go off in a big assault, but it took a lot of Necrons with it as well.

I've used a C'tan in a desperation move in turn 3 as a 'bomb' once.  Teleported it into harm's way where the enemy HAS to deal with it, hoped it would kill as many of the enemy as possible, then hoped that it went up with a big boom if they manage to kill it.  I figured if I lost it in turn 3 it wouldn't be so bad and I was losing anyway.  I won by holding the Blitz and Dave ignored it - he was too bust shooting at my other stuff.  But I did try it. :vo

Mosc: I played for a long time with an abbatoir, so got used to SR 1 and no reroll.

The Abattoir is a fine machine, but it doesn't have nearly as fun of a critical hit as the other War Engines.

Pylons and Aeonic Orbs and C'tans are the most fun IMO when it comes to big booms.  Sometimes they take out your own stuff, sometimes the enemy, sometimes they just make a big crater, but they are always fun.  So far though I haven't seen any of these criticals as overwhelmingly in favor of the Necron.

Maybe its a British thing, everyone that chats about Necrons here (and at the weekend tourney) uses them as bombs. For a teleport army post turn 1 the higher strat is nice, better are lots of dead good stuff.

Of course being an arty guy at heart I often go for the cheap barrage. But still the suicide titan killer is tempting.

Certainly everyone sees Necrons as having the worse non critical criticals. Its an assault force and that sort of effect is typically benifical!
