Only joking. I'm sure LB will put  in the final installment at lunch. Lets just say it doesn't just go down to the wire!!!

Turn 4..

For the fourth time the Orks win strategy and elect to go first.

Bobskull takes a deep breath and surveys the bloody scene around him from the relative safety of his Superstompa. The field is littered with bodies and the air is think with smoke. Now Bobskull didn?t get to where he was today by not realising when a battle was there for the taking and he wases no time in pickingup his Kommuncator and issuing his first order of turn 4.

Once again the reliable Flyboyz take off from their nearby airfield and roar across the battlefield blasting apart 2 genestealers leaving a single broken ?stealer standing next to the Nid baseline objective.

In retaliation the Hive Mind initiates the bloodiest assault of the battle ? in a combined assault the Nexus Swarm and the Carnifex Swarm throw themselves at the Stompamob!!




Bobskull cries a bloodcurdling battlecry and takes the fight right back at the oncoming bugs.



The Superstompa?s Mega-choppa and the Stompa?sKombat Hammas hack chucks off of the assault bugs but the seer weight of the bug onslaught is too much. In the first turn of the assault a Haruspex latches itself to the Superstompa and tears off the metal head (critical). Inside the head Bobskull howls in frustration as he is flung from the fighting. The second turn of the assault goes even worse for the Orks as the Superstompa is brought down crashing onto the decapitated head. Still the slaughter continues into a 3rd turn with the Stompas valiantly hacking carnifex and Hauspex with a terrible fury. The 3rd turn is also a draw but as the 3 Hive Tyrants prepare to throw themselves into close combat they realise that there are no enemy left to fight! The entire Stompamob has been slaughtered!



As both broken swarms consolidate slightly to surround the centre objective a Hive Tyrant spies a bloodied figure crawling from the wreckage of the Superstompa?s head. Bobskull looks up into the eyes of the Tyrant knowing that he is drawing his few final breaths. In a flash Bobskull recalls his earlier successes and defeats and as the Tyrant pulls back a massive scything talon Bobskull defiantly roars his final words?.

?WAAAARRRRRRGGGGghhhhhhhh.....(cough,cough)....Wherez MeEmexFive when I need it?!!.........................silence?..

Note to readers: MeEmexFive was Bobskulls first Gargant, destroyed in 2006.

Back in the Ork half of the battlefield the fighting continues. The Big Blitz Brigade advance and fire at the remaining Lictors killing one and breaking the other.

On the bug left the Warrior-led swarm 1 marches forward to contest an objective in the Ork half whist holding one in the bug half.

The remaining bike of Kult of Speed 1 which is single-handedly holding the Nid  baseline objective receives an order over his headphones to shoot at the nearby broken genestealer. The biker presses the fire buttons but accidently beeps his horn instead (fail)  The resulting blast marker breaks him and the Orks no longer have Blitz!

(note Orkybob actually tried a reroll here even though his supreme commander was dead! Thankfully that also failed!).

At this point it seemed obvious to me that the battle would either go another turn or be decided on countback. We each had one formation left to activate (warband 1 and Warrior-led Swarm 2 respectively) and it was my activation next.

I didn?t fancy my chances in an assault against some 600 plus points of undamaged Warband (even though this was my BTS goal and breaking them would give me one objective in his half).

My Warrior-led swarm 2 therefore simply advanced through the buildings of the urban area shooting at Big Warband 1 as they went positioning themselves in readiness for the Warband?s assault.

The Nobz of the Warband however had other ideas and tried to march the warband to my baseline objective! With shock I realised that should the warband pull this off they would be able to march into my half and control not only my baseline objective but also the next nearest objective which had been held by the Nexus Swarm which was now broken. If the Orks made this roll, on the final activation of the battle, it would take it from being 0-0 to being 2-0 to the Orks!

You could have heard a pin drop as Okybob made his roll??..he rolled a 1!!

To the annoyance of the Nobz the boyz refused to walk that far and simply fired their blasters into the buildings taking out 2 termagaunt stands.

The field turn 4 end.



We rolled for another turn and no ? it was going to countback?

Rally rolls were made and spawning was carried out (In my excitement I failed to note what rallied and what was spawned!).

The countback showed that the bugs had won! They had narrowly beaten the greenskins by a mere 125 points!! We shook hands and poured another beer! What a fight.

This battle was the opener of our little tournament with the winner due to play the number 1 seed - Dave?s fearsome drop-podding Black Legion army.

As I was deploying my bugs for my second battle Orkbob decided to have a read through the Markonz variant rules with a view to giving me some useful feedback.

It was at this point that we spotted a mistake made during countback!!!

The tiebreaker text in the Markonz rules reads as follows?

?Instead use the following rules for units/groups destroyed or reduced below half at the end of the battle.?

The goes on to add?

?Broods are worth half their points value (add the number of all killed brood creatures of the same type together to determine how many broods worth of units have been destroyed.)

What we did first time was only take into account destroyed broods ? for instance there were 5 dead carnifex ? so we counted half the points for 1 destroyed brood (3). What we realised we should have done is to have treated the 5 dead carnifex as 2 broods as the remaining 2 dead carnifex are more than half the brood.

So we did a recount and added to the bug total the following.

An extra brood of Carnifex  for the 2 dead Carnifex (worth 50 points) plus
An extra brood of Haruspex for the 2 dead Haruspex (worth 75 points).

So looking again at the tiebreaker points it was 975 points each!!! A draw!!

At this point our whole group had gathered to watch what was going on. We decided that the only fair way to see which one of us should continue in the tournament was have a roll off.

I rolled first, a 4 and waited for Orkybob ? he rolled ? a 5!! I packed up my bugs and Bobskull started to unpack his Ork army again!

Great batrep LB.. It really was an awesome battle....

I can't believe we are still making rule mistakes after playing for so long. And I'm making school boy error's like not doubling the single warbike to give a much better chance of passing rather than breaking itself!!! Doh!!

Wow, that was close.

Great Report guys looking forward to seeing how the orks faired against the BL or is that too much to ask for. :)

Unfortunatly we didn't take notes for the BL drop pod vs Ork battle but if I remember correctly that one went to a countback too with the Orks losing by a few hundred points(I seriously blame the dice gods for that one.....  :;): )

Could be very interesting seeing at it could well put the opposition directly among the nid lines.... Not excatly the best tactic against a CC specialist type of army!!

The Black Legion did just manage to beat the Orcs on countback after a rather poor drop.

They then went on to completly destroy the IG leaving just several IG stands on the battlefield with minimal loses.

Shall get Lightbringer to report on the battle next time we fight.

Just to clarify, Wako1302 commanded the Black Legion army that went on to win our tournament.

I've got a picture of his winning army somewhere - I'll see if I can post it later.

Wako, lets have a battle between your Legion and my bugs at our next meet.
