Elysians have no man-portable AA weapons, so you'd be making something up yourself.

Yeah, Epic does that because 40k isn't a system for fighting battles from wars :)

So are there any WWII Parachute Regiment dedicated AA weapons you can think of?

That being the inspiration for the Elysians...

Well, they didn't have SAMs back then, but I am sure they would have carried them if they were invented.  I know I would have.

I can live without them, but I thought I'd throw it out there.  If they can carry a shoulder fired AT weapon (and they do), they can carry a shoulder fired SAM.  They are the same size and comparable weight and the only differences would not affect the weight (in fact the SAMs I think are slightly lighter, and much more expensive of course).

Ooo, a challenge!

First off the parachute regiment isn't the only inspiration. There's the glider regiments and the modern day air deploying forces (plus stuff like parachuting IFVs!).

But yes I could a) post something on TMP/WWII yahoo group and get you a deluge of options or point out the use of MGs on jeeps for last ditch defences or just do a quick search :)

81st Airborne Anti-Aircraft Anti-Tank Battalion: ( LTC X.B. Cox) (1944)
35 officers and 606 men
3 Batteries of 8 57mm AT guns
3 Batteries of 12 .50cal MG

If you want an existing model the sabre platform with heavy stubber could in theory be easy knocked up from a weapons container dropped with the men. Static though, so good for dropping on objective but if they wish to abandon it, its bm time!

If the whole point is to "not have to rely on planes", then why bother inventing something? Elysians, more than any other regiment DO rely on planes. It's entirely characterful that they should need to have planes for AA.

They have no infantry-carried AA weapon in the background or in the 40k game, as I said you'd be inventing something yourself that didn't exist anywhere else, and moreover it would be a *something* that you would expect to see in games of 40k (things invented for Epic generally tend to be War Engines rather than infantry units!).

I don't see it as beyond the realms of possibility that the Elysian F.A.V. that was previewed at Games Day might have an AA weapon.

i guess i wasn't clear enough. what i meant was is there any aircraft in 40k. if not there would be no AA infantry in the game. and since we have aircraft in epic then the inf would be an obvious choice to include.
and if we have to adhere strictly to 40k then wouldn't we have to wait and see if the ne vehicle has the AA option? but i too thought that would be a great idea. could probably base stats somewhere close the flak wagon for orks.

Yes, there are aircraft in 40k, and specific AA weapons for attacking them (though any AT type weapon has a very slight chance of shooting them down).

Yep there are loads of aircraft in 40k.
Also there are loads of AA vehicles like Hydras and Skyrays.

But the Elysians have nothing for AA other than aircraft. :)

Heh, oh well. It's worth throwing out there though.  I think it will be funny when you see the Elysian model with an AA weapon hit the market next year though. (my prediction of irony)

I don't see the wheeled vehicle carrying an AA (not as a standard weapon anyway).  It seems more like a fast attack vehicle - not the type to sit around.

The vanilla W40k rules do not include any aircraft. Aircraft are well outside the scope of the Warhammer 40,000 game.

That they are normally outside the scope of 40k does not, however, stop the Apocalypse supplement from including rules for aircraft, nor did it stop Forge World from producing rules for them prior to the release of Apocalypse. Since Apocalypse is supposed to be a bit of fun, rather than a particularly balanced, tactical or even sensible game, including rules for things like aircraft is well within its purview.
