Quote (primarch @ 08 2003 Dec.,22:13) | Hi!
Yes, thats the one. There was also one of a falcon and reaver titan, where the modeler similated the laser shoot hitting the reaver. Pretty complex modelling!
Primarch | Hi all, a bit of rounding up here - barring the spectacular element mentioned in the quote, you'll have noticed that all conversions mentioned are based on characters or individual models. And I guess this is one aspect which makes Epic modelling particularly intrigueing - and possibly frightens off many potential modellers - working on a 6mm sized individual. In fact, no vehicle was given as a challenge, bec. these can somehow or other be done. BFG is similar to the latter, bec. although the scale is smaller, there are just vehicles in the game, which are larger than the 6mm troops (although - has anyone converted ordinance models?). In fact vehicles in Epic are challenging when 1 - the subject vehicle is of a complex and very unusual shape 2 - the conversion requires major changes to the basic shape vehicle you are starting with 3 - particular bits required are of a nasty shape 4 - difficult paint jobs - but that's not really modelling! 5 - texture required on model 1 - 3 are all practically the same thing - viz, modelling a Tau manta if the model were not available is not easy unless you are a good sculptor (or, most probably, Tuffskull); 4 is paintwork; 5 is a nasty problem if you're building a large model which ends up looking detail-free and slab-sided and featureless. How do you model rivets in Epic (and are they visible? no, and visible rivets are out of scale, but they look ok on orks)
There is one other problem, in my opinion: modelling a number of stands of similar troops, as opposed to characters. For example, how would you create a Hrud(d?) army's troops? One. or a few, could be modelled or converted, but 50 stands...? Unless you are a good sculptor and can produce replicas, or you're Tuffskull, you're hrudless. The thread mentioning flying assault marines is another example - a simple solution required for a number of models rather than just one.
Any comments, he sez as he realizes he's placed himself in an elevated position in a certain corner of Hyde Park...?
