I think you need to explain how Epic is different from 40k, while being in the same universe.
Here's a contribution, do with it as you will:
Epic plays more like 40k should. Instead of a total IGOUGO kind of action, with the move, fire and assault phases, Epic goes by Detachments. For example, a Space Marine Tactical Detachment consists of six stands of Space Marines, and you can upgrade them with Drop Pods, Rhinos or Razorbacks to transport them, Hunter AA Rhinos for air cover, a Dreadnought, or a Vindicator for fire support.
First, you have to activate. That represnents the unit receiving orders. Space Marines pretty much can activate with no problem, but there are circumstances where you can't. Once activated, you can do a variety of actions. You can move and fire, you can move double and fire at a disadvantage, you can triple move and not fire, or you can stand still and fire at an advantage, or regroup to take off blast markers.
Firing is simple, a single roll to hit or miss. Under circumstances, you can actually need a 7, 8, or even 9 to hit your target, and yes, you can roll those numbers on a six sided die. For every hit, your opponent gets a save. Heavily armored units like Land Raiders or Terminators get a reroll on their save to represent their heavier armor.
Once you have activated a unit, then most of the time you pass the initiative to your opponent and they activate a unit. This back and forth develops the battlefield more like it would in real life.
There are more particulars to the rules, but those are the basics.
In Epic, armies play differently than they do in 40k. In 40k, Space Marines are bludgeons, brute force units that you can throw at the enemy line and have enough get there to prevail in a close combat.
In Epic, Space Marines are a scalpel, to be used to make surgical strikes on particular parts of the enemy line. Most of the time, they are outnumbered and that is a disadvantage in close combat.
Some armies pretty much play the same, IG plays with massive mechanized forces, and Orks play with sheer numbers to overwhelm enemy defences.
*end of contribution*
Do with that as you will, you don't have to add me to the author and you can edit that as you want, or use it for your own ideas.
