Hi Folks,

I was curious as to methods others use to keep track of which troops are in which transport within a formation.

It seems somewhat important, especially if some transports have a leader or what not.

Thanks!

I tend to keep the infantry at the edge of the table (or on the side table) in pairs lined up in roughly the same way as the vehicles.

For Rhinos, you can use different symbols on the top to distinguish what's inside. Check out codexes for 40k or old WD issues.

Establish conventions with your friends or just operate on the trust system, letting each person track their own.

Another way to do it is to assume maximum dispersal, and dice for "odd" units.

We normally do something roughly like Tertius' suggestion but we have a high level of trust and generally don't mess with trying to track each other.

In a tourney I would ask what they want to do during  the 5-minute warmup.  My suggestion would be like Tertius' suggestion with the addition that each person announces which units are picked up as they move.

In my area we just line up the transported troopers behind each vehicle, so you can see at a glance what it's carrying.

We do the same thing - if we remember we turn the troops on their sides so that we know their in the transport instead of taking cover.  Most of the time we can remember, however.

At the tourney I ran a couple years back this came up once with the Orks so the 5-min warmup -as others suggested- is the best place to address it.

There is always the 'balance' method :)

We simply place the units next to the transport vehicle at the moment. However, another of my projects is a 'transport tracker' - essentially a transport system using individual ID painted on the transport, and a box with the ID symbols printed out and place for two normal bases per ID symbol.
