So, my friends and I whipped together a new mission/scenario for a game in the Red Queen Rising campaign and I wanted to post it here in the rules section to get some feedback.

Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Seems good! I only see one flaw: there are some armies (IG) that will be difficult the play as the attacker, as they own very few units able to move at cm (not to talk about scouts!)

Well, with Mechanized Infantry in Chimeras, Stormtroopers, Valkyries, and Vultures, plus Rough Riders and Sentinels, not to mention Warhounds, I think the Steel Legion has more than enough formations to give it a good try.  *laugh*

The only armies we could think of that would have a tough time being the Recon "attacker" are Necrons and Tyranids... and neither really seem like forces that do a lot of recon...

Once the Red Queen Rising campaign wraps up we'll probably try and playtest the scenario some more.

Well, that's hardly the scathing criticism I was expecting from the Internet...  :D

Legion 4, did you get a chance to read over the scenario?  Does anything seem to stand out as implausible or unplayable on a face reading?

Anyone else have any thoughts or suggestions?

Additional to Hena's observations, I would suggest the following changes
  • Spotting modifications :-
    -2 ?for doubling,
    +1 for SHT
    +3 for Titan
March move cannot spot at all!
  • To count the points for extrication, the attacker must exit the defenders table edge in a 60 cm zone he has previously noted in secret at the start of the game (before any defending markers are deployed??)
  • The defender should automatically win if there are no land based attacking formations on the table.
Other thoughts :-
  • I am Not sure what you can do to mitigate the defender placing half his markers on one side and half on the other, thus almost guaranteeing that half his force remains hidden.
  • Also, presumably there needs to be some guideline around how close the markers can be to each other (otherwise the defender has deployment problems??)
  • Finally, I have a sneaky feeling that this may well favour armies with lots of activations, especially siege masters. TRC usually gets 16 activations that try to lurk behind trenches, barbed wire and fortifications. Given that you do not know where to attack, the attacker will have a big job trying to identify the appropriate targets
BUT

Having said all that, it looks to be sufficiently intriguing to try out.

Good Luck

Ginger

I've recently tried the scenario with Marines against LatD. The game went 19:9 for the Marines.

The Marines didn't get too many points by taking markers (around 6), but they were able to extricate 80% of their forces. Maybe the attacker should get less points for retreating? Or only units which actively scouted should give points?
