So I think most of us know there's a Tau list, and Tau items from Forgeworld. So it came up in the SG board that in 40k the Tau have human forces made up of the survivors and descendants of Guard sent to fight the Tau or on worlds the Tau took from the Empire.
So I'm wondering if there's any indication of whether the Tau dislike of hand to hand is physical or cultural - from their 40k statlines, I'd assume it's cultural. At any rate, what I'm thinking of doing is using the old IG sprues to represent humans incorporated into the Tau. I suppose that, given long enough, they'd simply start being armed and trained as the Tau are, as I don't see them bothering to waste their time on crude Imperial manufactories, except to produce small things like sentinels or bikes.
It should provide some visual diversity from legions of Fire Warriors, and some nice background opportunities. The old Guard also look more sci-fi with their smooth armour plates and visored/full helmets. Anyways, I'm pretty much set on this, and will probably use the rules for fire warrior stands, and maybe convert some of the Forgeworld vehicles to have humans popping out of the turrets.
At any rate, I was just wondering what you all think would be suitable proxies for the bikes, roughriders and assault guard to be. The sentinels and robots can be crisis and broadside battlesuits. I was thinking maybe stealth suits for the bikes as there weren't any particular rules for their stealthiness in the list.
Thoughts, especially on background plausibility and basing? I might get the occasional pack of FW infantry, or more likely just expand when the Tau are actually released by SG. But vehicles/aircraft are a definate, if I ever get around to going to the battlebunker. Probably no Mantas or Orcas at the time, though.
