When did the price for Predators and Whirlwind/Hunters jump to ?9!?!?!? This game is getting awfully expensive awfullly fast!!! I'm getting bad feelings about this...
I suppose it is because of the Dollar but still... Increasing the price upon the release of a new game isn't very wise IMO...
Cheers!

Woah... they were actually advertised at ?9 in WD, so maybe the online prices were edited when it came out... thank god I don't play Marines anyway... ?

I was screaming about this for awhile! Anyone remember? Epic used to be a pretty affordable game to play. Now Land Raiders are a luxury item. I would try and use your older stuff for the time being.
Geez, I know the new ones are better, but can you imagine back in the day playing AT/SM with 4 Land Raiders costing as much as they do now? I know the new ones are metal, but they aren't making plastic ones. I can remember playing games with 30 Land Raiders on the table among other things. I think those days are gone. And six plastic Warlords for $30 versus $30 for a one metal one now. Nice.
BTW, I found some old minis of mine of the first generation AT/SM Predators. Anyone remember those? Haha as minis, the quality really SUCKED! I really didn't like the MkII or III versions but absolutely love the IV versions. Anyway, it surprises me how crappy some of GW minis were at the time, yet how much we loved them. There is just no comparison compared to today.

But back to the point of the thread, yes the costs for the stuff can be quite steep.

Hi!
I remember when I retailed, I used to "sell" the game as a cheap alternative to GW's flagship games and it was effective.
These prices are one of those points I have mentioned over the past year or so as detrimental to epic's effective spread.
Old models may be "crappy" but they add the special "feel" when I add them to a force since they "stand out".

Well, I for one cannot afford to replace my line, or even supplement it, with the newer minis. And I can't imagine asking someone with no mini's at all to plunk down the moolah for a playable force, especially if they had limited experience with the game. Oh, well, the older minis will be with us for a long time anyways. Long live Ebay!
my two cents,

My old models are my friends- veterans of a hundred battles, slayers of the Emperor's enemies and defenders of Humanity.
I will add new models to their ranks (like Valkyries et al) but cant see newbies able to fork out mega$ for them. Especially when the Pound is so strong and you have to pay international shipping on top.
Its another step towards what the doomsayers have been predicting for awhile, I hope it doesnt continue....

Hi!
Yeah, I have that nostalgic "thing" for my old models. They have after all been "fighting battles" for many years. I like seeing them on the tabletop.

I never replace my models, as Tas and Primarch said, I just add the new ones to my force structure.

I don't even think about replacing my trusty old troops. And even if I did, I couldn't afford it. I have dozens of Land Raiders alone, although I must admit that only three of them are of the very first metal batch for Adeptus Titanicus.
I once thought about comverting the Land Raiders to look more like the new 'uns (they _do_ look better) but making a "Pattern Piett" Land Raider was so much work I'd be retired before I could finish them all.

I agree that the prices do seem steep on the marines, especially when you compare the infantry boxes (same price all round, but the marines get substantially less for your ?/$).
Having said that, you can still get a well rounded, tournament sized & legal force for under ?100. I'd be suprised if you could come up with an army list for another GW game that boasts all three aspects (other than BFG at a guess) where this is possible (at GW retail rates).
Its too much, but compared to other GW games, it shockingly still is "affordable". Compare it to any other game & its ridiculus... but this is GW....

I noticed this when I placed my order. To be honest, I think that GW are shooting themselves in the foot with this. Even placing them originally at the higher price would have been better. Advertising at ?8 and then raising them just irritates people. They are expensive, and you can get a good force cheaply, but people dont see that. I think that more people buy a large force of cheap minis than a small force of more expensive ones.
The new version of Epic is going down similar roads to E40K in terms of marketing and so on. Even the WD article has shades of the intro to E40K.

Advertising at ?8 and then raising them just irritates people. | ..I was actually incorrect in posting that- they were ?9 in WD, guess I just assumed they would be the same price as the IG Demolishers etc- ?9 is rather ridiculous for 4 tanks imo, especially as they are quite an important feature of some SM armies, and not rare like certain other tanks GW might not sell as many of..

I like to think I'm a realist, and inflation etc have had thier inevitable effect.
The figures are lovely and well sulpted. But its up to each individual to decide if its worth it. Look at how much 6mm SciFi stuff you can get from Irregular/GZG/etc for 30 pounds- LOTs!
Mind you I though E40k minis were expensive at the time, and would be happy to see figs at that price again now!
I think T/S hit it on the head when he says its cheap for a GW game- its relative!
