MW and Extra attacks

I get this mixed all the time...

If a unit has a weapon for example Talons bc Assault Weapons, EA(+1), MW does he get all attacks, 2 in total as MW attacks? And if it was listed Talons bc Assault Weapons, MW, EA(+2) he only gets one macro?

if an assault weapon (CC or FF) has a special ability (first strike, macro, ignore cover etc) AND grants extra attacks, then the weapon ability ONLY applies to the extra attacks

Dave's examples above illustrate this very well

Dave are your first 2 examples basically the same thing, just in a different order?

Can you give an example where the EA are all MW? Ie are there any scenarios where the EA is a MW?

Er.... not sure if you're asking what you think you are ;)

Space marine terminators have EA+1 MW so each stand rolls one standard attack plus one macro attack.... same story with imperial guard ogryns

Space marine land speeders have MW FF attacks as do eldar fire dragons, neither has any additional attacks so they roll a single dice which has the MW ability

If the weapon (either close combat or small arms) has the macro ability but does not give extra attacks then the weapon ability applies to the normal attack of the model, however when it is an ability AND gives extra attacks then the ability applies ONLY to the extra attacks

Yup that makes sense.

Small Arms (EA+2,MW) generates 1 normal attack as standard + 2 EA both of which are MW

Yep. To add a few more examples to the pot.

If there's no EA(+x) on the line, the rule applies to the base CC or FF only. Any extra attacks after that only inherit speciail abilities on the unit (not any of those on weapons):

Talons bc Assault Weapons, MW AND bc Assault Weapons, EA(+1) => 1 MW attack, 1 normal attack

If you want something to have 2 MW attacks you have to give it to the unit's regular CC or FF, and then to an extra attack:

Talons bc Assault Weapons, MW AND bc Assault Weapons, EA(+1), MW => 2 MW attacks

Ah I see. Thanks. the 'and' is required to designate that the additional extra attack will have MW AS WELL AS the standard attack.

Right Ive been stumped by this too - played my third game of EA today with Iyanden - do Wraithguard get 2 MW attacks always in a firefight?

As their basic weapons have MW, but their 'small arms' says "MW, EA (+1)" - so does this mean in a firefight they get two MW attacks (one for their extra attack having the macro weapon ability, and one because their basic shooting attack has the macro weapon ability? -OR- do they get a standard attack at firefight 4+, and then an extra attack which has the macro weapon ability, because only extra attacks can use abilities?)

Unless the basic FF or CC is called out specifically with a special ability it is just a plain attack. Wrathguard have a plain FF attack they also have an extra FF attack that is a MW.

A line doesn't have to be an extra attack tp use special abilities. Re-read this thread, it's pretty exhaustive. Also see the FAQ:

AMTL Titan Close Combat Weapon:

Base Contact: Extra Attacks (+3), Titan Killer (d3)

So with a Warlord rolling 8 dice in CC does this mean he gets:

a. 8 dice basic AND +3 extra attacks each of which have Titan Killer ability causing D3 hits on War Engines?

b. 8 dice basic all of which are Titan Killer (D3) AND +3 EA which are not TK

c. Something else

Cool. I'm guessing it would be:

(base Contact) TK (D3)
AND
EA +3 TK (D3)

If all attacks were to be TK

It would most likely be represented as two separate CC weapons to avoid confusion, but yes it would require two distinct CC entries.
