1. A hypothetical question from last night's game as the situation didn't come up.

The EpicUK Great Unclean One has EA+1 CC and EA+1 FF. As war machines can split their attacks in an engagement presumably that means that if it reaches base contact it could roll it's base four dice in CC, another dice in CC for the extra CC attack and then make a FF roll for the extra FF attack?

Assuming there were some enemy models not in BtB contact to use the FF roll against.

2. Not so hypothetical this time. Supporting fire after the main engagement attacks have been resolved. Does the 'directly involved in the assault' clause limit which units can be removed as casualties from the supporting fire or does it just limit which supporters can fire?

For more specifics, a bunch of Plague Zombies are engaged and the normal engagement casualties are resolved. When it comes to supporting fire, only two of the line of six remaining Zombies were directly involved but they take three hits. Should those three hits be allocated to the two Zombies that were directly involved or do the hits extend down the line to models that took no direct part in the engagement?

1. That is the case, so in your example, the GUO can use his extra FF attack (assuming there are targets able to be hit) as well as his extra CC attack, providing they are not from the same weapon

2. The units directly involved are the only ones who can be removed as casualties yes, so extra hits are wasted

I'll dig out the rulebook references later, I'm at work at the moment

Ta and ta. That's how we played the supporting fire hit allocation (so two saves on the closest and one save on the other) but we read through that section several times without finding a really clear statement.

Here is the quote from the rules
Quote:
1.12.6 Supporting Fire
Both sides may call upon support unless the defender has been wiped out or the attack stalled as described above. Calling on support allows units from other formations to attack with their firefight value if they are within 15cm and have a line of fire to an enemy unit directly involved in the assault. In this case ‘directly involved’ means belonging to the attacking or defending formation(s) and in a position to attack. This rule represents units from both sides that are not directly involved in the assault lending supporting fire when they see their friends coming under attack. Units from formations that are either Broken or Marched this turn cannot lend support.

Yeah, we read that paragraph multiple times without being able to see a limit on where casualties got taken from, just a limit on which supporting units can attack.

There is no limit to the number of casualties other than the limit of the potential target units (those that were directly involved in the assault).

The rules for Allocating hits are the same whether from shooting, assaults or support fire - front to back relative to the formation causing the hits. Support fire follows the principles in assaults, which refer back to 1.9.6 Allocating hites
