Basic question. We are planning a reasonable size game soon (four players, 5000 pts each on the table). As you can imagine, everyone is now scouring the army lists...

Anyway, a question has come up regarding the amount of orbital support available. My apologies if this has come up many time before !!

Para 4.3 of the rulebook confirms that each army can only have one spacecraft. However, the original army lists appear to contradict this, treating orbital support as another formation choice which you can pick more than once. For example, the Steel Legion list theoretically allows you to pck two Orbital Support Formations per Company.

I assume this is a typo and that the Oribtal Support entry should have included a '0-1' restriction ? The 2014 Compendium appears to correct this.

While there's no requirement in the rule book to enforce that, it's been the defacto standard forever. Yes, the oversight was corrected in the SL lsit.
