was good fun muddled through the rules but got the hang of it in the end.

resource wise, id love to get some counters - theres a pdf on the net e a site but has anyone gotten some pre made counters ? or even some kind of order dice similar to bolt action?

cheers

John

GW made order dice. Epic 40k, epic armageddon and battle fleet gothic all shared the same order dice i think, the green ones. But those are now (presumably) out of production since GW canned the SG ranges. Not sure if anyone has made alternatives.

until I got my hands on some cheap order dice, I used GW bases with symbols painted on to mark units on overwatch, broken etc....

Net Epic or Net E:A? ;D

Sorry, that's a whole different problem for another thread...

I liked your comment "notice my use of quick reference sheets to try to hide the shame of destroyed units"! You'd better get used to that fast! Epic is all about mass slaughter!

Nice pics, liked your battlefield and it looked like a good game (though I understand nothing about E:A). ;)

looks like a good setup, you were brave playing 4k for a starter game, but then my first ever game was 4k per side (but I had 3 experienced guys playing with me so rules weren't an issue)

any particularly confusing aspects of the rules? did you do much assaulting or was it mostly shooting? I think you'll find engagements are the key aspects of E:A, they're much more potent than shooting, but they can be a bit daunting at first (I didn't even realise mechanised guard infantry company were excellent assault units until about 3 months after I started playing.... ;))

a 10k game may be lots of fun, but for me E:A is at its best in the 3-5k range for a balanced, tournament style game, above 5k and things begin to unbalance a little

also the game isn't 'Net Epic Armageddon' it's 'Epic: Armageddon' the 'netEA' refers to the lists, so you can play 'Epic:Armageddon' with netEA, EpicUK, Epic-FR or even Games Workshop lists, the game is exactly the same

it would probably help Bissler as any mention of the word 'Net' in association with epic confuses his tiny reptilian brain ;)

hi all, one of the guys had order dice from gothic but we noticed that theres more orders than sides of the dice? ive got a heap of gothic dice i can use my old counters were useless but at least could be used for marking units who had an action.

there was 4 of us 2v2 so it was fun we got through the game alright, the basics were no problem in the end it was just the more specific stuff like special rules we needed to track down. i think its really just down to playing more games. the first turn took ages but you get the hang of it.

we did several assualts which were straight forward (we play quite a bit of flames of war) my one complaint is the marine assualt squads were only 4 stands? same with the devestators only 4 stands would be nice to have 6

ive got a load of plastic blast markers on order and i am seeing if i can get some custom plastic tokens made up for the order actions will post how i get on with that.

net is a dirty word around here :)

just on the lists i said it before but this is an excellent list maker,

http://www.brumbaer.de/Epic/AGen/index.html

the fact that you can print your army list and get a full list of the stats for the army is excellent. the more stuff made available the better on this site.

one other thing i might try and track down is an epic armageddon version of the army cards, everyone playing seems to like that part of the old game, ive got a stack of the older epic space marine cards points probably dont match though? its nice to have them on the table and a version with the unit stats on the back would be excellent!

I use the order dice quite a bit, the crosshairs are good for marking overwatch, the 4 divergent arrows for broken units, the exclamation point for activated and the triple arrow to show if something has marched, I use one of the other sides to denote a slow firing weapon reloading

marine formations are very small, the general idea being they need to play in a mutually supportive way, so you double up the devs into 15cm range of the target, shoot it and prep with blast markers, then engage with the assault marines and the devs can support fire, so you effectively get to use them twice, more if you can pull off other assaults in support fire range of the devs, it can be quite tricky to get the most of your units. I tend to avoid assault marines, their lack of real hitting power and no shooting attack as well as poor FF value means they tend to be of little utility, unless you spend the game hopping around and avoiding combat before bouncing onto the blitz on t3....

I use the gothic dice, but like Rastaman says you don't need all the sides. I use them to mark Overwatch Image
if a unit has activated (doesn't matter which order except for marching) Image

If they have marched then there's Image

And finally for broken formations Image

All dice are removed at the end of turn, except for those formations that remain broken or on overwatch. It makes it easy to follow which unit have yet to activate.

Good that you're getting into the game :)

I grew up playing in the Space Marine / Titan Legions era of the game (mostly multi-player games with my friend and his brother) and had great fun with it, but EpicA. I can understand being nostalgic for the cards, but just manage without them, the game works better without them and you'll do fine. Not having them means formations can be customised exactly as you want them and makes armies that should be ragtag and variable like Orks can be.

It can help speed up play (particularly when you're new) to have a copy of the quick reference sheet. A print out of the page or two reference sheet with stats for the units in each army helps too.

I use order dice as others have said, though I only use them to mark broken or overwatch. I only have half a dozen or so but I'm tempted to pick up more and mark formations that have activated as I have a very bad memory and occasionally find myself forgetting if I've activated something this turn or last turn.

I also use the Epic40k order dice. I find them very handy. I use them for overwatch, march, the single arrow for activating and either the lightning bolt or exclamation point to remind to roll for a critical in the end phase.

How dare you sir! My tiny brain is mammalian! Come here till I present you with a Glasgow kiss! :{[]

Right, not being funny for a moment, one of the complaints people have about NetEpic is the order counters messing up the board. How does placing all of these dice next to formations differ? Is it just that the dice are a bit more pleasing on the eye than the counters?
